Sony Ericsson Introduces W995 in the Competition of Nokia N86

Nokia N86 and Sony Ericsson W995
New phone of Sony Ericsson W995 is being known as entertainment powerhouse. Nokia N86 is also the series of Xpressmusic. So, in the mobile market there are two most competitive new phones – Sony Ericsson W995 and Nokia N86. Now, we have to follow up what are the basic features in both phones which will attract users?

At first we will go through Sony Ericsson W995 which offers 8.1MP camera. It has home theater system, media go and SensMe technology. Camera features of Sony Ericsson W995 offers face detection, smile Shutter and LED flash technology.

On the Launch of Sony Ericsson W995, Sudhin Mathur who is the General Manager in Sony Ericsson Mobile Communication Department of India, said,
“Mobile Phones today are at the epicenter of our digital lives and are increasingly looked upon as a gateway to entertainment on the go. With the launch of Sony Ericsson W995 Walkman phone, we are making an attempt to converge mobile entertainment by bringing together best quality video experience, premium imaging and music features and great connectivity options.”

In this statement Sudhin Mathur has make a clear-cut opinions about Sony Ericsson W995 that it would be a music, video, image and better connectivity phone. Specially, he has emphasized on music and entertainment by which the phone would be known.

Sony Ericsson W995 incorporates it with some great features such as – 2.6 inch display, USB cable, HPM-77 headset, 3D games, YouTube video etc. The phone is priced as 26,786 INR.

Now we should check something about Nokia N86. The phone is also equipped with 8MP camera. Nokia N86 features are - 8 GB internal memory, millions of tracks and playlists, Bluetooth, high-speed connectivity, Carl Zeiss Tessar lens etc.

In the market still Sony Ericsson W995 needs more popularity than Nokia N86. However, W995 is better than N86. My vote goes to W995 for better design, functionality, cashing and good looking phone.

Blame CUPE

Are you tired of blaming fate, the vagaries of nature, or God for your misfortunes? Try blaming CUPE. It's fun and easy.

Here's an example, provided by the Toronto Sun.

CUPE killed summer. That's right. Summer is dead, and CUPE perpetrated the murder.

Try it yourself. Car won't start? Blame CUPE. Weather too cold? Blame CUPE. Miss the bus? Stub your toe? Spill your coffee? You know who to blame.

Microsoft FY09Q4 Results

This is it. The wrap up of FY09, coming fresh to us Thursday July 23rd. I'll put this up a bit early in case there are any initial questions, thoughts, or insights regarding how FY09 is closing.

Some of my favorite places to track insights and opinions on MSFT quarterly results:

Topics I'm interested in:

  • Description of efficiency so far and an enumeration of which groups are going to get Sinofsky'd.
  • Assessment of further financial risk at the hands of the EU Commission.
  • Oh, any more layoffs? If not, it would be wise for the SLT - for the sake of employee morale - to close the door on this now.

Given how negative Ballmer has been about the economic reset, I can't imagine any rosy picture painting just yet, even if Intel looks like it has bottomed out and Apple is frantically trying to create as many iPhones as it possibly can.

Pakistan, India agree to carry on peace talks

Awaz Apni SHARM-EL-SHEIKH: A crucial meeting between leaders of Pakistan and India ended here Thursday on a positive note, with both sides agreeing that dialogue was the only way forward.Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani and Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh who met here at the Red Sea resort on the sidelines of the 15th NAM summit, where more than 50 heads of state from the developing world are gathered for the two-day summit, agreed to carry on their talks. Talking to reporters after the meeting that lasted around three hours; including delegation level and exclusive one-on-one talks, Prime Minister Gilani said Pakistan also raised the issue of threats in Balochistan and other areas. Prime Minister Gilani said Pakistan has said that all core issues need to be discussed and the composite dialogue should not be bracketed with terrorism. “Action on terrorism should not be linked to the composite dialogue process and these should not be bracketed.” He said both the leaders have recognized that “dialogue is the only way forward” and agreed that the foreign secretaries should meet as often as necessary and report to the two foreign ministers who will be meeting on the sidelines of the forthcoming UN General Assembly. A Joint statement issued at the end of the talks termed the meeting “cordial and constructive” and said the two leaders considered entire gamut of relations and agreed that terrorism was the main threat to both the countries. “The leaders affirmed their resolve to fight terrorism and to cooperate with each other to this end.” Prime Minister Singh reiterated the need to bring the perpetrators of Mumbai attack to justice. Prime Minister Gilani assured that Pakistan would do everything in its power in this regard. He said Pakistan has provided an updated status dossier on the investigation of the Mumbai attacks and had sought additional information and evidence in this regard. Prime Minister Singh said the dossier was being reviewed. “Both the leaders agreed that the two countries will share real time, credible and actionable information on any future terrorist threats,” the statement said. “Prime Minister Gilani mentioned that Pakistan has some information on threats in Balochistan and other areas,” the statement said. Prime Minister Singh said India was ready to discuss all issues with Pakistan including all outstanding issues. Prime Minister Singh reiterated India’s interest in a stable, democratic Islamic Republic of Pakistan. The joint statement said; “Both leaders agreed that the real challenge is development and the elimination of poverty. Both leaders resolved to eliminate those factors which prevent our countries from realizing their full potential.” Pakistan and India agreed to work to create an atmosphere of mutual trust and confidence and reaffirmed their intention to promote regional cooperation. The talks on the sidelines of the 15th NAM summit are being held in a bid to resume the stalled peace process, meant to resolve their long-standing disputes. Earlier Prime Minister Manmohan Singh received Prime Minister Gilani when he arrived at the venue. The two leaders warmly shook hands and had a photo-op before starting the talks at Maritim Jolie Ville Resort. The talks were held amidst hopes that the peace process might be reinvigorated to bring stability to the region. The two leaders were supported by delegations including Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira, Education Minister Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani and Minister for Science and Technology Azam Khan Swati, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Nawabzada Malik Amad Khan, PML-N MNA Ms Anusha Rehman and Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir. The Indian delegation included Foreign Minister SM Krishna, Foreign Secretary Shiv Shankar Menon, National Security Adviser MK Narayanan and Special Secretary Vivek Katju. Gilani and Manmohan last met in August 2008 on the sidelines of 15th SAARC summit in Colombo and agreed to resolve all outstanding issues and promoting the confidence building measures. The two countries have so far held four rounds of the Composite Dialogue beginning in early 2004 and has seen its share of ups and downs. The fifth round stalled only after a few meetings following the terrorist attack on the Indian embassy in Kabul in July and the Mumbai attacks in November 2008. The two sides managed to break the ice after a meeting between President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on June 17 as they met on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Yekaterinburg in Russia.

purplesn0w technicals

About a year ago today, I found the at+stkprof exploit. Back then, I struggled for 3 days to write a payload. No luck, I just wasn't a good enough reverser. So I stashed the exploit away until December, when I gave it to dev for use in yellowsn0w.
Now a year later, I wrote a payload and delivery system in a day. And it's an awesome payload. Ideally we'd like to patch the lock out of flash, but with the apparently proper sig checks, that isn't going to happen. So purplesn0w is the next best thing. I copy the page I want to patch to an unused region of memory. In memory I patch it. Then, using the MMU, I map the flash page out and remap the patched memory page in it's place.
No new iPhones are really unlocked, activation creates a ticket allowing the baseband to be used with that sim. The lockstate of the phone really lies on apples servers. Unlocked is auth all sims. Locked is auth AT&T sims only. Fortunately this ticket system provides an easy way to deliver the payload and reexecute the patched code all in one. And since the ticket is already delivered on baseband resets, theres no need to write another daemon to hog battery. I use the daemon already designed for this, lockdownd. A patch to commcenter gets it to run the payload on ticket delivery. And a patch to your activation record contains the payload. So using existing apple machinery, I unlock when needed.
In retrospect, I should've just patched commcenter to send the payload. Then hacktivation would work no problem. Oh well, tomorrow is another day. I'll add hacktivation support then.

Here is the source. And I mean all of it.

Make it ra1n, I'm makin' it sn0w

Wifi fails? Battery fails? Unlock fails? You need purplesn0w, the geohot 3GS unlock solution. Now I know you here a lot about different colors of sn0w, but I'm here to tell you why purplesn0w is the best. First off, what is purplesn0w? It's a soft unlock for your 3GS that I'd actually use day to day. It's not a daemon that takes any resources, and it doesn't add a task to your baseband. It's very close to a true unlock. All it does is patch three files, CommCenter, lockdownd, and your wildcard activation plist(which you need, activate w at&t sim first, no hacktivation support yet). That's it, no other files are installed. Props to Oranav for the at+xlog exploit!
A full explanation is coming soon, but I think you clever reversers out there will see what it does, and see why it's so pristine :-) The payload is radically different from other varieties of sn0w. beta as usual, back up first.

Excel Mac 2008 is talk of the recent technical developments

Since, I am a computer gadget freak; I have a keen interest in what is the latest development made by Microsoft in the section of applications and operating systems. It’s all new Excel Mac 2008 is an influential tool that can be used to generate and configure spreadsheets, analyze and share information to make more knowledgeable decisions. When the basic operation of life is getting more and more computerized, the need for such developments is inevitable. With the feature of Microsoft Office Fluent user interface, rich data visualization and PivotTable views, professional-looking charts were easier to create and use.

In an advanced world, we all have been requiring some or the other operating systems that could fulfill our computing needs. No one has much time to devote on a single task as there has been a lot of work pressure in the offices. Excel Mac 2008 provides significant improvements for sharing data with better security. It also allows sharing confidential business information more largely with your coworkers, customers, and business partners. After all, Microsoft has given something or the other beneficial to its customers. They know that there is a continuous demand for the technically enhanced operating systems. With this operating system, tracking the data and managing it has become even more easy and quick. Anyone can buy Microsoft excel Mac 2008 from the company’s website by making payment through credit card. Though, it is available with computer dealers in the market; still, one should not take risk of buying tampered operating system.

Microsoft Has Turned The Corner

I've got to say: in my opinion, Microsoft has turned The Corner.

You know The Corner.

The one that gets us off of pothole ridden Vista Avenue (one street over from Lincoln in Blue Velvet). The Corner that requires Microsoft to shed some of the fat it has layered on recently just to make the turn without flipping. The one that requires a bit of humility for past failings (the aforementioned Vista, Xbox losses & red-ring, Zune's market performance so far, WinMo asleep at the wheel, no coherent brand strategy, search lagging behind for so long, the abandonment of IE after IE6, a confused developer story, a bungled Yahoo! acquisition attempt, etc etc etc).

The Corner that perhaps doesn't get us out of the bad neighborhood, but is at least pointing us in the right direction. What has helped make the turn?

  • Windows 7
  • Bing
  • Silverlight
  • IE EU chutzpah
  • ...and award worthy, coherent ads that aren't a demonstration of how best to destroy millions of dollars quickly.

Redemption takes a while. Time is needed to allow perception to change and to re-earn trust and respect. Once Microsoft was the scrappy underdog playing catch-up against many competitors. Later Microsoft was the dominating OS and application suite, so drunk and arrogant on its own power (pre-monopoly designation) that it made some truly dumb, strong-armed moves (and even worse, did sloppy "nuh-uh!" cover-up maneuvers). After that, Microsoft went from getting beat-up by the US government to the dot-com bust to the development of Vista, reset after the huge effort of XP SP2. The Evil Empire became The Bungler, hatred turning to scorn and frowning distaste. And the EU hurried over to slip in a few kicks to the wallet.

While all of that could have been avoided with competent senior leadership, it at least served as a hard enough whack to the side of the head that even our mediocre leadership took action to aright the ship.

Now we have the potential to start shaking this off and achieving solid, if not stellar, results.

This is happening, too, while the shine on Google is dulling. Rather than pulling an Apple on us anymore, Google has picked up the nasty habit of pre-announcing technology. Guys, you stole the wrong playbook. And, uh, we don't want it back. Plus the government's gaze has moved from the fallen-working-on-redemption of Microsoft to the obvious domination of Google in search and information strong-arming. A dose of the medicine Google's now getting:

Anyway. Let us enjoy this success of Microsoft turning The Corner, all while being a wee bit smaller and more efficient. 5,000 jobs eliminated so far and a declaration from Ballmer that efficiency is his key focus right now. Wall Street likes how that blood in the water tastes so far.

I'm going to start my whole "and we can cut a whole lot more positions" screed in a second. But first a moment to reflect on the flesh and blood people caught up in the layoff mess we've gone through so far. There is certainly a sobering perspective on this within the abundant comment stream of the last post.

It's not their fault they were part of the layoff. It's not their fault that their position was considered part of the inefficient part of the company that was eliminated. I certainly don't blame anyone for wanting to work for Microsoft. Large parts of Microsoft are magical, exhilarating places to be. In its bones, Microsoft is a great company with amazing potential. It's just turning The Corner and directing itself to where it can focus on efficient, lean-mean, profit making products that engage and delight Microsoft customers.

At Microsoft a lot more positions still need to go to achieve efficiency and focus. 15,000 more is my magic number. It's not personal. But to achieve efficiency and resolution of what to focus on with determination, we need a whole lot less people and to publicly admit there are opportunities we will focus on and others we are okay walking away from. ("That's right, Adobe: you can charge as much as you flipping want for your Photoshop line of software.")

For efficient product development: Yahoo!'s Carol Bartz has a good point when she swears like a sailor over having way too many program managers vs. actual developers (overloaded with one program manager for every three developers). <<edit edit edit - this went quickly into the weeds - let me sum up some quick thoughts>> Looking across groups, I still see exceptionally inefficient use of broad, front-loaded thinking and design locked into a 1970s waterfall model that leads to reality and focus coming way too late and a bunch of frantic, mediocre consensus driven crap floating like chunks into an end product. Kaizen. Kaizen. Kaizen. Efficiency is not going to happen as long as we continue rewarding people for this status quo. Shedding a respectable chunk of the company would bring an exceptional amount of upfront focus to our teams and result in high-quality features end-to-end, vs. what we see in misshapen compromise that we can fit in.

Microsoft has turned The Corner. But our car's suspension is still wobbling from the load we're carrying, and while some fine spots of leadership has gotten us around this bend, it doesn't take much for the remaining mediocre leadership to assume that the pressure is off and to get their grubby hands on the wheel and start turning us back towards Vista Avenue. The job isn't done. It's just beginning. We iterate again.

(Oh, and hey, here's a question for you: if you could create a new Microsoft leader based on the best attributes of our current leaders, what would you create? For instance, I'd start by combining the efficient layer-busting profit focused philosophy of new President Steven Sinofsky with the campus design skills of President Robbie Bach. Ideas?)

Windpws 7

In case you haven't heard, Microsoft's going to launch its new Windows 7 operating system (OS) this Fall. But 7's your lucky number today because we've got a sneak preview, a full upgrade to this stellar new OS for a ridiculously low price. That's right, you can pre-order the upgrade to Windows 7 now and save up to 50%. Windows 7 is much simpler to operate than Vista, and just as easy as XP Pro, except you've got an even cooler interface than Vista (which is pretty cool no matter how you slice it).

Windows 7 also gives you more control over your computing experience. It provides a clean and uncluttered desktop, as well as more options than ever to customize and personalize your PC.

  • You can open files in just two (2) clicks!

  • You'll browse faster in Windows 7 because it speeds up your common web tasks.

  • Windows 7 features simplified home networking and an easier wireless setup than Vista.

In fact, Windows 7 works the way you want.

It's designed for faster start up, shut down, sleep & resume. Your laptops will run longer with Windows 7 because it improves battery life. Plus - and I know you're going to love this - Windows 7 allows fewer pop-ups and security alerts, which though essential, can be awfully frustrating when you're ready to work on a spreadsheet, writing e-mail, or watching a slideshow of your favorite photos.

Now, we've given you a tiny snapshot of what Windows 7 brings to your computer and why it's an upgrade from Window Vista and XP Pro. Maybe you're saying, "So what? I'm doing just fine with Vista. All the kinks have been worked out. All my drivers work fine. I'm going to stick to what I've got."

Okay, we'll be blunt. If you don't upgrade to Windows 7 you're going to get left in the dust.

Because Windows 7's the coolest and most powerful new operating system ever! And we're offering you an upgrade at an insanely low price. However, we have many more reasons you need to upgrade to Windows 7 now. Like we said before, it's simpler and easier. But there's lots more:

  • You can easily resize windows to maximize vertically. Or you can snap two documents side by side to compare content (I LOVE this feature, which is great when you're working with spreadsheets).

  • You can access your most frequent and frequently used files by simply right-clicking on a program icon on the Taskbar.

You're going to love this -- with Windows 7 web browsing is incredibly easy when you're working with the new Internet Explorer 8.

  • You can run a visual search by typing a search request. You'll immediately see a list of search results and images while you're typing!

  • And your monitor changes on Web sites of interest.

Windows 7 is way, way cool! It's faster because it reduces the number of default services that start & run in the background, which enables your PC to start up and shot down faster. It goes into sleep mode faster because it writes less to disk. You've also got enhanced stability - you're not going to see many crashes and freezes that short circuit your work and fun while you're in midstream. Windows 7 even recovers data easier because it can automatically backup to your home and business network.

Okay, here's the big question that you have on the tip of your tongue. Compatibility? You might have had all kinds of problems with Vista compatibility, but built into the design of Windows 7 are key technologies that give it perfect compatibility with the same programs and devices you've been able to run on Vista. In other words, if an application or device runs on Windows Vista it should run on Windows 7.

And here's some great news - if a your system runs on Windows Vista, it should run faster on Windows 7!
See you in Fall 2009!

We have a construction because windows 7 is coming!
See you in October!

Death and life of a netbook (Acer Aspire One)

I've got an acer aspire one
This isn't really a review but ever since i've got it, its been great. Small, light, perfect for travelling and storing photos on, its been round the world with us.

I really don't have a bad word to say about it, the Intel atom 1.6 GHz processor is great and the 1 gig of ram perfect for running xp home (yes sorry i had to get the Microsoft XP version, i did really want the linux one, but it wasn't just me using it and everyone else knows xp so xp it was), and the 160gig HD is perfect for storing the photos on.

small, fast, strong, light, good looking
all good praise
so why the post?

well it broke, i didn't do anything to it, didn't install anything nasty, didn't mess with its innards (i know better than to do that to a perfectly good working laptop) but it broke. i shut it down one day, proper full shut down (not hibernation or sleep) and that was it, next time i pressed the power button nothing happened, no splash screen, no BIOS info, just a black screen :-/ eek.

Well after searching the interweb it appears it happens now and again to this perfect specimen of a nettop laptop. luckily there were some instructions on how to fix it too :-) thank god for google...

I wont go into details here, see the link below, i just thought id better let other unfortunates know that sometimes a dead laptop isn't really dead. i was dreading sending it back to the manufactures though...

Detailed instructions here

Download BIOS update from here

happy days
now don't do that again. Speaking of which, if anyone knows why this happens could you let us know, im worried it might happen again, proper backups from now on then...
