ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammed Chaudhry Saturday said he has sought explanation from the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) before reaching any conclusion over its request seeking help in connection with the general elections.
Presiding over a meeting of National Judicial (Policy Making) Committee today, he said any institution should consider the ECP request, if the commission approaches for assistance.
It should be mentioned here that the NJPM meeting is discussing an appeal by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to appoint judicial officers as District Returning Officers in the upcoming elections.
The secretary ECP will brief the meeting about the commission’s preparations for the next general polls.
The judges of the Supreme Court, chief justices of all four provinces’ high courts and Federal Shariah Court’s Chief Justice Agha Rafiq Ahmed are in the meeting. –SAMAA
