PS Vita 2.0 update subscription discrepancies

Reported by Maryum Razzaq

CNews World

We have some great news for PS Vita owners now, as Sony has finally given the green light on their much anticipated firmware 2.0 update. It is going to be released next week and will bring support for PlayStation Plus, with existing subscribers set to be in for a pleasant surprise.

When the PS Vita launched in the US and UK in February earlier this year, it didn’t come with PlayStation Plus – with Sony saying that they’ll be adding this feature sometime in the future. Almost ten months later, PlayStation Plus for the PS Vita is finally ready for its release and it will be going live on Wednesday November 21st along with the PS Vita 2.0 system update.

Like its PS3 counter-part, having a Plus subscription will get you a selection of games each month, for free along with other incentives. Many Vita owners had feared that the free Vita games on offer would be ‘below par’ games that nobody is interested in, but we’re pleased to say that there’s two on the list of four that you should be very happy about.

Uncharted: Golden Abyss is going to be included in the first Vita Plus content, along with the very well received Gravity Rush game. The other game titles that you’ll get for free are Chronovolt and Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack. Pay attention here though as these are the games that only EU Vita owners will be getting.

If you are in the US and have a subscription to PlayStation Plus – it’s a different story all together. We often see EU PlayStation customers given the short straw time and time again, and unfortunately we have yet another instance to tell you about here. US Vita owners with a subscription will be getting six games, instead of four and the selection on offer is easily the better out of the two.

Aside from Uncharted Golden Abyss and Gravity Rush, the US offer also includes Jet Set Radio HD, WipeOut2048 and Final Fantasy Tactics. As you can imagine, there has been plenty of complaints on the EU Blog about this, with Sony failing to give a clear cut explanation on why the US gets the better games – Jet Set Radio HD should really be offered for both.

Overall though, there’s no denying that PlayStation Plus on the Vita is another great reason to pick up the handheld. A three month subscription will be available for either £11.99 or $17.99, while there is a yearly option as well priced at £39.99 or $49.99 in the US.

What are your thoughts on the discrepancy over the differences in game titles on offer? Should Sony be explaining why they have decided to shunt EU consumers yet again, or are you happy with the four games on offer regardless? We will bring you full details on what else is expected in the 2.00 update soon.
