Quake victims facing freezing cold

CNews ZIARAT: Thousands of people in the sparsely populated south-western province of Balochistan have spent a freezing night in the open. Aftershocks from the 29 October earthquake continued to rock the area, creating widespread panic. Temperatures in Ziarat and other affected areas were recorded by the Pakistan Met Office at between minus one and minus four degrees Centigrade on the night of 29-30 October. The death toll from the quake, which measured 6.4 on the Richter scale, is now being officially put at 236, with over 400 injured. Aid workers who have rushed to the scene believe these numbers could rise as more bodies are dug out of the rubble. North-western Balochistan, including the Ziarat and Pishin districts, was worst hit by the quake. Seven to eight villages in Ziarat have reportedly been levelled. NAZIM KARACHI SEND RELIEF GOODS TO EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS.

CNews Karachi. Oct 29: Nazim Karachi Syed Mustafa Kamal has sent relief goods worth Rs.1.5 crore as immediate help to earthquake victims in various areas of Balochistan. These includes 5000 food packets, thousands of blankets and tents. The food packets contained flour, ghee, milk powder and other items. Earlier the City Nazim on Wednesday talked with Chairman National Disaster Management Authority Gen. Farooq over the telephone and asked him about the immediate needs of the earthquake victims. Gen. Farooq told Nazim Karachi that at present the affectees needs foods, blankets and tents on urgent basis on which City Nazim informed him that the city government Karachi was sending an initial aid of 5000 food packets costing over Rs1.5 crore along with thousands of blankets and tents for victims in earthquake hit areas of Balochistan and if needed, more such help will be arranged also”. Over 100 dead in Balochistan quake

CNews QUETTA: More than 100 people have been killed in an earthquake struck parts of Balochistan whereas scores of people still trapped under the rubbles. Dozend of injured are under treatment as government has imposed emergency in all hospitals of the province. Pishin, Ziarat, Qila Abdullah, Chaman, Loralai, Sibbi, Mastung are badly-hit areas. Several houses and buildings have been collapsed. According to the Geological Survey of Pakistan, the epic center of the quake was in Chiltan mountains. Ziarat is the worst hit area where 10 people were killed in land sliding whereas four people were killed in Khanozai. Death toll in different parts of Balchistan has reached 33. Ten bodies were recovered from the rubbles and shifted to hospital in Ziarat. According to ISPR, contingents of FC have been dispatched to affected areas for rescue operation along with a medical team.
