Riyadh agrees to defer Pakistan's oil payments

CNews LONDON: Saudi Arabia has agreed to defer payments for the crude oil sales to Pakistan worth $5.9 billion during Pakistan's current July-June financial year, a British daily reported on Saturday. "There is an agreement to defer oil payments. The modalities are being worked out," Pakistan's de facto finance minister Naveed Qamar was quoted as saying in an interview on Friday night. Qamar would not discuss the time span for which payments on Saudi oil shipments would be deferred, but an official from the petroleum ministry in Islamabad separately told the British daily that the agreement involved deferring payments until at least June 2009 when the financial year ended. It was not clear if the deferred payments would be paid back. One western diplomat familiar with Saudi ties to Pakistan said the Saudis in 1998 began supplying crude oil under a deferred payment plan after Pakistan carried out its maiden nuclear tests and came under international sanctions. CNews ISLAMABAD: A seven-member special bench of Supreme Court will hear on October 30th a contempt petition over the recent deportation of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif from Islamabad airport to Saudi Arabia.The bench is headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry. Saudi Arabia gives approval for return of Sharif to Pakistan

CNews Islamabad, Oct 26: The Saudi Arabian government has given its approval to former Premier Nawaz Sharif to go back to Pakistan and modalities are being worked out for his return in November, a senior leader of his PML-N party said on Friday. "Saudi Arabia has already told Nawaz Sharif that he can go back to his country whenever he likes. We are working out the modalities so that he can return in November," said PML-N acting President Makhdoom Javed Hashmi. Hashmi`s assertion came a day after President Pervez Musharraf told a meeting of top leaders of the ruling PML-Q and its allies that Sharif would not return to Pakistan from exile before the general election, which is due by mid-January. Benazir should put off homecoming: Shujaat

CNews JEDDAH: President Pakistan Muslim League (Q) Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has said Benazir Bhutto should delay her homecoming as advised by President Gen. Pervez Musharraf. Talking to CNews News in Jeddah Shujaat said he was not in contact with Benazir Bhutto but the presidency has been in touch with her. Sharifs’ to return home between Nov. 15 to 30

CNews LONDON: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s son Hassan Nawaz Tuesday said his father and uncle Shahbaz Sharif would return home between November 15-30. Talking to Geo News here Hassan Nawaz said his father Nawaz Sharif was presently in holy city of Madina and will return to Jeddah on second day of Eid-ul-Fitr. After few days’ stay in Jeddah he will proceed to London. After two to three weeks stay in London Mian Nawaz Sharif along with Shahbaz Sharif will return Pakistan on any day between November 15-30. According to Muslim League-N sources Saudi government has allowed Nawaz Sharif to leave Saudi Arabia after Eid.
