ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, along with top leaders of the government coalition submitted the nomination papers of President General Pervez Musharraf as a candidate for the presidential elections with the Election Commission (EC) today. Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, PML President Ch Shujaat Hussain, the chief ministers of Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan, along with the proposers and the seconders of the president, submitted the papers on the president’s behalf.Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz presented the nomination papers to the Chief Election Commissioner Justice (R ) Qazi Muhammad Farooque. The chief ministers of Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan, Mushahid Hussain Syed, Rao Sikander Iqbal, Hamid Nasir Chattha, Babar Ghouri, Khurshid Kasuri, Sheikh Rashid, Aftab Ahmed Sherpao, Waseem Sajjad and other government leaders were also reached the election commission office. Chief Minister of Punjab Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi talking to media said that he had earlier told that the president would contest elections in military uniform. Private media was disallowed access to the election commission to cover submission of presidential nominations. Stringent security measures were taken in the federal capital on the occasion. All roads from Rawalpindi and other cities to Islamabad were blocked and heavy contingents of police were deployed at various roundabouts and key buildings in Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
