Nintendo 3DS: A Danger to Children’s Eyes?

CNET Games: When Nintendo release their 3DS handheld it will undoubtedly be popular with children, however we are hearing of some concerning information regarding how the 3D visuals may affect the growth of children's eyes. According to a recent article posted on MyNintendoNews , Nintendo has issued a warning suggesting that parents should consider turning off the 3D visuals via the physical switch on the side, however this only needs to be done for children under six years of age. Tutorial: How to set up a Windows 7 HomeGroup

CNETAnalysis: HomeGroup is a feature exclusive to Windows 7. It enables you to easily share music, photos, documents and even printers between different switched-on PCs on your home network without having to spend time configuring each system – you set up the HomeGroup using one PC, then join it using other machines on your network. It’s a really useful system and is so simple to get going – just follow my step-by-step guide below. The great thing about HomeGroup is that you can share as much or as little as you want, and I’ll also show you how to do that later in the tutorial. You can only create a HomeGroup in the Home Premium, Professional or Ultimate Editions of Windows 7, but you can join one with any version. 1. Oldest Facebook user is 103-year-old great-gran

CNews LONDON: A woman from Tenby is thought to be the oldest member of social networking site, Facebook. A CNews report highlighted Lillian Lowe, who is 103-years-old, and now thought to be the eldest member of the site after Ivy Bean from Bradford, 104 (who was also a big tweeter) passed away this summer. Lillian used to run a hotel, but unsurprisingly has retired now, so has plenty of pottering time. Unlike most pensioners, however, her pottering is done on an iPad (which she finds easier to cope with than a laptop due to the touch interface). The technologically aware great-grandmother has just a small collection of friends, and uses Facebook mainly to keep in touch with family. Although since she's been handed the crown of Facebook's oldest user, she has been inundated with congratulations, and something in the order of a thousand friend requests. She told the Beeb: "We've had messages from all over the world. I'd like to say thank you very much."

CoD Black Ops Ascension Zombie Map – Info & Your Ideas

CNET Games: Recently we announced that Treyarch will be releasing the First Strike Map Pack for Black Ops on February 1st ( Xbox 360 ), this DLC mainly consists of multiplayer maps, however there is one new zombie map, this is called Ascension. So far no real details regarding this zombie map have been revealed, therefore I thought I would piece together a few different ideas and possibilities, let’s start with the obvious the definitions of ascension: – humans directly entering heaven without dying – moving upwards / climbing (ascending) If the zombie map name has been given its name due to the definition of the word “ascension” there are two likely possibilities, perhaps we will see a map where you get higher and higher as you progress. I doubt the religious idea associated with heaven will be used as it is a bit far-fetched, but you never know, it would be kind of cool if zombies tried to make their way through the pearly gates. An interesting take on the As

He said that Altaf Hussain made irresponsible and derogatory statements about PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif. New Kinect Hack for World of Warcraft – Video

CNET Games: It would be fair to say that a lot of hardcore World of Warcraft gamers do not live the most active of lifestyles, however a new Kinect hack created by the University of Southern California may help change this. The USC has created the Flexible Action and Articulated Skeleton Toolkit (FAAST), this basically maps body movements to keypresses, if you scroll down to the end of this post you can see a video showing how this toolkit makes playing WoW a far more involved affair. FAAST is middleware which can be used alongside Kinect to control all types of off-the-shelf video games, obviously at the moment it is a work-in-progress, however the more success this project sees shows the true potential of the Kinect sensor and what it can bring to Xbox 360 titles. At the moment Kinect titles are very Wii-like and aimed towards children, however it is thought that a Kinect firmware update will unlock its true potential and make it a game changer , perhaps we w

Sony PSP2 Renders Derived from Leaked Pictures

CNET Games: Back in mid-November we revealed some leaked PSP2 Dev Kit pictures, now PSM3 Magazine's designers have put together a couple of renders based on these leaked images , the results show us a device which has a similar form-factor to the PSP Go (see below). As you can see the button layout is quite different to the PSP Go and there are dual-analog sticks, also worth noting is that there is a front-facing camera, a built-in microphone and perhaps a touchscreen display. Below we have embedded an image showing the rear of the PSP2 . As you can see the back of the device is pretty plain, there is a rear-facing camera and a rear trackpad, however I think PSM3 Magazine's designers overlooked the fact that there would be some sort of branding on the rear. Barring the lack of branding on the rear it seems as if the renders are pretty much spot on, a few things have not been shown such as a headphone jack, however I doubt that the mock-ups are too dissi

The details of the patent were unearthed by the folks over at patentlyapple – detailing plans for an integrated touchscreen display relating to touch-sensing circuitry integrated into the display pixel stackup of a display. 20 new Apple patents The US Patent and Trademark Office officially published a total of 20 newly granted patents for Apple Inc. this week. In addition to a number of new Apple patents relating to its photo-centric Aperture application and a key on-chip decompression engine relating to the iPhone’s A4 processor, it is this ‘integrated touchscreen’ tech patent that is of most interest. The patent also mentions a number of end-user examples of devices that the tech relates to, including uses on mobile phones, media players and notebooks. Apple has of course not commented publicly to date on any official

Best Video Games of 2010 – What’s Your Top 5?

CNET Games: Now that 2010 is almost over, many gaming websites have been listing their favorite games of this year. As you can imagine there has been a wide variety mentioned, including obvious titles such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, Red Dead Redemption and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. I thought I would take a look at a couple of these websites, just to check out what titles are being dubbed the best video games of 2010. The first article I came across is from Chris Kohler over at wired.com , which actually lists the top 20 games of this year including Fallout: New Vegas at No. 20. The game that came in at No. 19 on this list is Kirby's Epic Yarn for the Nintendo Wii, while BioWare's Mass Effect 2 game ended up at number 11 and Donkey Kong Returns made it to No. 6. The game that made it to the No. 1 spot on this list however was Starcraft 2 for the PC. Surprisingly, COD: Black Ops didn't actually make the top 20 list at all. The next article t

Buying Guide: Best 1TB external hard drive: 10 drives tested

CNETAnalysis: These days, you can never have too much storage space. However much you have, you’re bound to fill it sooner than you think. But what do you do if you want more? Internal drives are all very well, but your PC doesn’t have an infinite number of drive bays, and what if you want to transport your digital data as well as access it from your own PC? For this test then, we’re comparing external desktop hard drives that have a 1TB capacity. A desktop drive is based on the 3.5-inch hard drive and is plugged into the mains, as opposed to portable external drives, which use smaller 2.5-inch HDDs and draw their power from their data connection cable, normally powered USB. The main advantage offered by desktop drives over their portable counterparts is price. They can, of course, be unplugged and carried away should you wish to (for example) take data between work and home, but if your drive is likely to spend as much time in your bag as it does on your des

PlayStation Phone: Release Date Update – Spring 2011?

CNET Games: We have some good news for those of you looking forward to picking up the new PlayStation Phone next year, as some new details have emerged courtesy of a Japanese newspaper report. According to Kotaku , fresh details on the PS Phone have come from the Asahi Shimbun newspaper, as they have stated that the new release ETA for the ‘not-so-secretive’ PlayStation Phone is Spring of 2011. Sony has yet to respond to the newspaper report, but the details suggest that the device will be released first in the US and Europe, followed by a worldwide release shortly afterwards. We know the device is definitely coming, and Sony’s Kaz Hirai even hinted of a release which you can read in our previous article here . Aside from being manufactured by Sony Ericsson, the device will also come with the recently released Google Android 3.0 Gingerbread software. It’s certainly a nice prospect to think that Sony are planning to release both the PlayStation Phone and PSP2 in
