Death toll in Lahore twin suicide attacks mounts to 31 LAHORE: Suicide attackers detonated two huge truck bombs in Pakistan Tuesday, killing 31 people, partly demolishing a police building and deepening a security crisis facing the new government. Another over 160 people were wounded in the attacks in the eastern city of Lahore, which came just minutes apart in the morning rush-hour and left rescue workers scrambling through rubble in a bid to find survivors. The blasts, one targeting the Federal Investigation Agency headquarters and the other hitting an advertising firm, were the latest in a wave of Islamist-linked violence that has killed more than 600 people this year. CNews PESHAWAR: NWFP caretaker Auqaf and Religious Affairs Minister, Khalid Raza Zakori has resigned from his post. Zakori told CNews News here that he had sent his resignation to the NWFP Governor on January 4 and has also dispatched a reminder yesterday to the Governor and the Chief Minister, as he was neither informed about the acceptance nor the rejection of his resignation. Zakori further said that he was contesting election on Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-JUI (F) ticket from the constituency NA-27 Lucky Marwat and because of his being engaged in election campaign, he was unable to continue performing the duties. It may be recalled that Zakori, a month ago resigning from the basic membership of Muslim League-Q, had joined JUI (F). On the other hand, sources said that the portfolio of Auqaf and Religious Affairs has been additionally assigned to the caretaker food Minister, Alam Zeb.

CNews PESHAWAR: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman called on MMA President Qazi Hussain Ahmed here on Monday.Maulana Fazlur Rahman visited the residence of ailing Qazi Hussain and inquired about his health. The two leaders also discussed political situation of the country. They agreed to convene MMA supreme council meeting after recovery of Qazi Hussain Ahmed. CNews PESHAWAR: Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) in NWFP announced to stage protest demonstrations tomorrow against the nomination of Shamsul Mulk as caretaker chief minister. JUI provincial General-Secretary Maulana Shujaul Mulk announced this late Wednesday. Talking to CNews News, JUI Peshawar Amir Maulana Ameerullah Haqqani said his party has reservations over the nomination of Shams as the chief minister, adding his appointment is not good for the rights of the province. A procession will be taken out in this connection from Masjid Qasim Ali Khan from tomorrow morning, he added.

ISLAMABAD: 162 National and provincial assemblies members of All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) have submitted their resignations on Tuesday. However two MPAs from Balochistan and one from Sindh Assembly took back their resignations. Members of APDM belonging from NWFP assembly had postponed their resignations after the no confidence move was moved against CM NWFP Akram Khan Durrani. 86 APDM members of National Assembly presented their resignations to Speaker National Assembly Chaudhry Amir Hussain. Tehrik-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan was the first parliamentarian who tendered resignation. After him other APDM leaders submitted their resignations. Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly, Maulana Fazlur Rehman submitted resignations of MNAs of Majlis-e-Amal to the speaker, while Muslim League-N leader Javed Hashmi presented resignations of the parliamentarians of his party.
