Karachi tragedy toll rises to 43 KARACHI: The death toll in the suicide blast yesterday at the mourning procession taken out in connection with Yaum-e-Ashur rose to 43, According to Secretary Health Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi, there are at least 40 bodies at Civil Hospital, two in Jinnah Hospital and a body is present at Agha Khan Hospital. I think it shook more than the mere things around. Third January it was and I already see chaos around. Electricity and gas crisis in the country … strikes at Gaza … Pakistan/India tension … tsunami warnings in Indonesia! And it reminded me of 8th october again =( I wonder why I still feel shaken … mid-night rants over!

Amagazine ISLAMABAD: The members of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security refused to take briefing from US ambassador over Nato planes violations of Pakistani airspace.Talking after the session, the Committee head Raza Rabbani said the US ambassador wished to brief the committee over violations of Pakistani airspace by Nato planes; however, the committee members deemed it not appropriate and suggested that if US ambassador wishes to brief, then the Foreign Ministry is the suitable forum for her to do the same.Raza Rabbani said the first phase of the committee session completed, where Home Ministry, Foreign Ministry and Defence Ministry and DG ISI gave briefings.While in the second phase of meeting, NWFP Governor Owais Ahmed Ghani will brief the committee over the situation in FATA; afterwards, the committee will set out preparing recommendations.The next session of the committee will be held on December 22 or 23.

CNews PESHAWAR: Nine people are reported injured in an explosion that ripped through an Imam Bargah here in Takia Sanghan area of Hashtnagri on Monday.Emergency activities have been kick started in the area where ambulances are ferrying the injured to a nearby Lady Reading Hospital where emergency has been declared. CNews QUETTA: The death toll in Balochistan earthquake has reached to 215, while hundreds have been reported wounded. More quake tremors hit Balochistan and Sindh areas today’s evening which according to Met Department DG were not sheer aftershocks, as the severity of these shocks was more than the morning tremors. The most hit areas include District Ziarat, Pishin and Fort Abdullah, where large number of houses collapsed. The U.S. Geological Survey reports the quake had a preliminary magnitude of 6.4. It was centered about 400 miles southwest of the capital, Islamabad. At least 50 people were injured in Quetta; while, many mud houses collapsed. An operation room headed by AIG Mujahid Awais has been established to provide relief to the earthquake victims. The administration has initiated relief and rescue operations and emergency has been declared in hospitals. CNews QUETTA: The death toll in earthquake in various parts of Balochistan has reached to 35 as dozens reported wounded in the Wednesday morning temblor in the western province of Pakistan. In Ziarat at least 15 dead bodies have been found from the landslides caused by the tremors. which jolted Balochistan here early Wednesday morning as a quake of six point two magnitude hits northeast of Quetta. Strong earthquake jolted Quetta and it’s vicinity with magnitude 6.2 on Richter scale but no loss of life was reported in preliminary reports. At least 40 person were injured while 17 persons confirmed dead in the quake. According to details, three quake tremors felt in Balochistan near Quetta, one of which was stronger enough to shake the earth for some time. CNews WASHINGTON: A Pentagon report said Friday that the growth of Al-Qaeda safe havens in Pakistan's tribal areas is "troubling" and warned it may take Pakistan several years to turn around the situation.The report to Congress by the US Department of Defense said Pakistan increased its troop levels in the border areas by 30,000 last year, and made "significant and costly" efforts to eliminate safe havens."It is troubling that despite these efforts, safe havens in the FATA have grown in recent years," the report said.
