iPad mini battery life hinted in picture

We don’t expect everyone to understand why an iPad mini might be needed, especially when the original 10-inch Apple tablet fits in perfectly with your smartphone and other gadgets. The fact is there’s a market for the iPad mini, and when Apple make the announcement in the coming days it will be met with an army of people lining up to purchase the 7-inch option, although this might not include some Android users with large screen phones like the Galaxy Note 2. Earlier today we reported about iPad mini accessories and how secret boxes were turning up at a certain electronics retailer, then shortly after that we published some predictions for the iPad mini invites and when we’d likely see them if we’re to believe the rumored date for October’s media event. Within the last few hours we also picked up on some leaked iPad mini battery pictures, which are also hinting towards the expected battery life for the iPad mini. If the 4490mAh Li-ion Polymer battery seen in the pictures ...

No tablet coming anytime soon: HTC

Folks are waiting for the first Android tablet to hit retail (not the oversized / undersized Dell Streak, mind you, but an iPad-sized one). It won't be an HTC tablet, we now know. On Friday, Eric Lin, Global PR and online community manager for HTC, said this about HTC and tablets: "We are always looking at it, but, right now, the whole idea is that in order to be successful with a tablet, you need to have something compelling. And not just a compelling form factor. [...] You’ve seen how, at Computex, there were 80 different Android tablets. So if we just release an Android tablet, then we’re one of 81 [...] Whereas, if we have a compelling feature, a really compelling use, anything like that, then it’ll help us to stand out." Apple seems to have already defined the tablet PC market, but in order to pull (drag?) folks away from the iPad, you do need a compelling product. That appears to be happening in terms of Android vs. the iPhone, and HTC is key among the OEMs devel...

Apple buying up Google ads for Dell Streak, HP Slate queries

The Dell Streak, that 5" sort-but-not-really tablet is already on sale in the U.K., and it appears Apple is taking no chances. Do a search on the Dell Streak in Google's U.K. search engine , and look what comes up as a sponsored ad? The iPad. Interestingly, while we were able to duplicate that result, we weren't able to see the other sponsored ad that's been reported as well: it was reported that a query for HP Slate was bringing up a similar iPad ad, but it appears to no longer be happening. Since the fate of the Slate appears on certain, why throw money that way, right? At any rate, there's nothing wrong with this behavior, per se. One would think, since the iPad is really targeting another audience, that the sponsored ad isn't going to change any minds. However, what's more interesting is that it shows Apple is taking challengers to the iPad seriously. Of course, a search for Samsung Galaxy S doesn't bring up an iPhone 4 ad. We suppose Apple i...
