President, PM strongly condemn MQM MPA killing

Awaz Apni ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani have strongly condemned the killing of Raza Haider, MQM leader and Member Sindh Assembly, who was shot dead by unknown assailants in Karachi on Monday evening. The President and Prime Minister in their separate messages expressed shock and grief over the unfortunate incident and directed the concerned authorities to investigate the tragic happening and take all necessary steps to bring the culprits to justice. They conveyed their condolences to the bereaved family and prayed to Almighty Allah to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant courage to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss with equanimity.

Pakistan search for black box into third day

Awaz Apni ISLAMABAD: Investigators spent a third day searching Friday for the black box of a Pakistani jet that crashed into Islamabad's hills, killing all 152 people on board, officials said. The search for human remains has been called off and most bodies handed over to families for burial, police said. The Airblue passenger jet crashed in a ball of fire in the forested Margalla Hills overlooking the Pakistani capital in heavy rain and poor visibility on Wednesday, while trying to land after flying from Karachi. "We have recovered remains of all the dead bodies. Now our focus is on the investigation and we are searching for any clue which can help us," senior Islamabad police official Bani Amin told media. Monsoon rains hampered the search for two days, but aviation experts and other investigators resumed work after the weather cleared on Friday. Commercial plane crashes near Islamabad; deaths feared

Awaz Apni ISLAMABAD: A commercial airbus of a private airline has crashed into Margalla Hills, a mountainous range behind Shah Faisal Mosque, apparently due to rough weather, Current News World news reported. According to preliminary reports, as many as 150 passengers including crewmembers were onboard plane while the smoke is seen rising through heavy clouds from the crash site, police and rescue service officials said. Eyewitnesses said people noticed airbus flying at very low altitude near Daman-e-Koh this morning and it might have crashed due to rough weather. The wreckage can be seen in video footages with fierce fire raging and smoke emitting from there despite heavy rains in Islamabad. India not mentally prepared for talks: Qureshi

‘One fake degree to put all under suspicion’

Awaz Apni ISLAMABAD: Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC) Dr. Javed Leghari Wednesday said even a single degree of a parliamentarian, if proven fake, will put all the degrees under suspicion. Talking exclusively to Awaz Apni News here, the HEC Chairman said degrees of all the parliamentarians including Rehman Malik and Babar Awan are being scrutinized while copies of 161 degrees, which were unintelligible, have been sent back. “Had the degrees were in readable condition, the verification process could have completed within a three-four days,” Dr. Javed Leghari added.

7.6% raise in power tariff from July 1

Awaz Apni ISLAMABAD: Government has hiked power tariff by 7.6 percent in line with the IMF agreement. According to the Ministry of Water and Power the revised tariff will be effective from July 1. The above raise will be in addition to the hike announced earlier by NEPRA in consequence to the monthly fuel adjustment. The notification says that the government has, under NEPRA Act, hiked the power tariff for consumers of eight power distributors as well as Karachi Electric Supply Company. The government’s original plan was to implement the hike from April this year but had to delay it for two months as country suffered from increased power shortfall and load-shedding. Earlier, the government had raised the electricity tariff by 4.6 percent in October 2009 and then in Janaury 2010 by 12 percent as part of its plan to bring in phases a total increase of 24 percent in the electricity rates. CRC members sign 18th Amendment draft

Awaz Apni ISLAMABAD: All members of the parliament’s constitutional reforms committee have signed the draft of 18th Amendment after reaching a consensus here on Wednesday. The signing ceremony took place at the committee room in Parliament. Federal Minister for Water and Power Raja Pervaiz Ashraf was the first to sign the draft followed by Naveed Qamar.
