CNews PESHAWAR: NWFP caretaker Auqaf and Religious Affairs Minister, Khalid Raza Zakori has resigned from his post. Zakori told CNews News here that he had sent his resignation to the NWFP Governor on January 4 and has also dispatched a reminder yesterday to the Governor and the Chief Minister, as he was neither informed about the acceptance nor the rejection of his resignation. Zakori further said that he was contesting election on Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-JUI (F) ticket from the constituency NA-27 Lucky Marwat and because of his being engaged in election campaign, he was unable to continue performing the duties. It may be recalled that Zakori, a month ago resigning from the basic membership of Muslim League-Q, had joined JUI (F). On the other hand, sources said that the portfolio of Auqaf and Religious Affairs has been additionally assigned to the caretaker food Minister, Alam Zeb.

CNews ISLAMABAD: Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman, Abdullah Yusuf has said that the revenue collection target fixed for the current fiscal year would not be revised downward.In a statement issued here, Abdullah Yusuf said that a target of Rs1025 billion revenue collection for the current fiscal year was certainly challenging, but not impossible. FBR chairman said that for meeting the target of the collection of taxes all the resources would be brought into use for which the officers would have to strive harder. He said that the high-tech and non-traditional process of revenue collection would be adopted for achieving this target.

CNews PESHAWAR: Caretaker chief minister of NWFP, Shams-ul-Mulk has summoned the chief election commissioner NWFP and secretary law for deciding strategy regarding forthcoming elections.According to official sources, chief minister NWFP Shams-ul-Mulk has directed the department of law and the provincial election commission to brief him about duties of all provincial departments during the next elections.Secretary law Shaid Nasim and chief election commissioner will give briefing to the caretaker chief minister regarding the next elections after which the strategy for the elections will be determined.

CNews KARACHI: A headless body was found from a flat situated in Boat Basin police limits as the police said that the trader was stabbed to death and unknown persons burned his flat. Initially the DHA fire station was informed of the fire which reached the spot immediately and while pulling their ladders from the balcony side found a headless body. They immediately informed the Boat Basin police, who reached the spot and the DHA started the fire operation. The DHA fire office states that two fire tenders took part in the operation. However, the headless body was not burnt. The police present at the scene said that the deceased was identified as Shabbir Rehman Sapra, a local trader. Interrogation is underway.

CNews PESHAWAR: Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) in NWFP announced to stage protest demonstrations tomorrow against the nomination of Shamsul Mulk as caretaker chief minister. JUI provincial General-Secretary Maulana Shujaul Mulk announced this late Wednesday. Talking to CNews News, JUI Peshawar Amir Maulana Ameerullah Haqqani said his party has reservations over the nomination of Shams as the chief minister, adding his appointment is not good for the rights of the province. CNews Srinagar, Oct 11: Militants on Thursday carried out a suicide attack on the CRPF battalion headquarters housed in a hotel along the banks of the famous Dal Lake here this evening in which one of the bombers was killed after a fierce gun-battle. The attack in the tourist hub of the city, coming after a period of lull in terror attacks in the state capital, happened around the time when Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad was hosting an iftaar party at the nearby Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC). Militants hurled a grenade and followed it by firing on the sentry post at the main gate of the headquarters of 144th battalion at Boulevard Road along the banks of the Dal Lake this evening triggering a gunfight, CRPF spokesman P Tripathy said. The incident happened around 6.30 pm. "One militant died and we are assessing the situation," he said. The encounter was still continuing in the night. The oath taking ceremony was held in Governor House which was attended by chief secretary Frontier Riaz Noor, IG Frontier Constabulary Malik Naveed, former speaker Frontier Assembly Bakht Jahan Khan, Federal Minister for inter provincial coordination Salim Saifullah and other civil and military officials. Talking to media after taking the oath, Shamsul Mulk said that his first priority would be to hold free, fair and transparent elections in the province.

CNews NAUSHEHRA: The decision has been made to appoint former provincial minister Shams-ul-Mulik, who has also been the chairman of WAPDA, as the caretaker Chief Minister of NWFP. Mr. Shams-ul-Mulik will be sworn as the caretaker Chief Minister of NWFP tomorrow (Thursday). The caretaker cabinet would be announced in few days time. NWFP Governor Ali Muhammad Jan Aurakzai had dissolved the NWFP Assembly on the advice of the Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani. The Law Department had issued notification about dissolution of the provincial assembly. It merits a mention here that former Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani had turned down the request to continue as caretaker chief minister till the announcement of the election schedule for the general elections in mid November 2007.

Information Secretary of Muslim League (Q) and member provincial assembly Nighat Orakzai has confirmed that opposition has unanimously decided to withdraw the no confidence motion against chief minister. Pakistan Muslim League (Q), Peoples Party (Sherpao), independent members and two members of Muttahida Majlis Amal(MMA) had submitted the no confidence motion to additional secretary Frontier Assembly Amanullah Khan. Thirty-one members had signed the motion.

Muslim League (Q) MPA Nighat Orakzai this morning in the provincial assembly session announced that the opposition has decided to withdraw the no confidence motion against chief minister. Some members of the opposition opposed the withdrawal of the move against the chief minister but agreed to the decision on the advice of Speaker Bakht Jehan Khan. Mian Nisar Gul, an MPA of Tehrik-e-Insaf, presented his resignation from the assembly membership to the speaker. Speaker Bakht Jehan Khan later announced to quit the speaker office and read the text of his resignation letter. ISLAMABAD: President Pervez Musharraf will call a high level meeting next week to hold consultations for strategy after the presidential election till November 15, sources said. Chief ministers of Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan would also meet the president in next week, sources added.

PESHAWAR: Opposition members have submitted a no-trust motion against Chief Minister of NWFP Akram Khan Durrani at assembly secretariat here on Monday.The opposition lawmakers had earlier decided to file a writ petition in Peshawar High Court against Chief Minister Akram Khan Durran to stop dissolution of the provincial legislature. In an unexpected move today, members of Pakistan Muslim League (Q), Peoples Party Sherpao, independents and two Muttahida Majalis Amal lawmakers reached the assembly secretariat and submitted no-confidence motion with Additional Secretary Amanullah against chief minister of the province.Thirty-one members of the provincial assembly including 10 members of Muslim League (Q), 15 PPP-Sherpao members, four independents and two dissidents of MMA Ghaliba Khurshid and Akramullah Shahid have signed the motion.
