ISLAMABAD: Polling in the elections of the Supreme Court Bar Association was completed after which counting of the votes continues. Votes were cast in eight cities including all the four provincial capitals for the election of the officials of the Supreme Court Bar Association. A large number of members availed their voting right in the Supreme Court Bar elections. Polling was held in peaceful atmosphere after which counting of the votes continues. The results will be officially announced on October 31. Contest is going on between Chaudhry Aitezaz Ahsan and Zafarullah Khan for the seat of president of the Supreme Court Bar Association while 11 candidates are contesting for four seats of vice-president. There is contest between three for secretary and two for additional secretary. Zaheer Ahmed Qadri has already been elected unopposed the finance secretary. CNews NEW YORK: The honours committee of the New York Bar Association has decided to bestow honorary membership on the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, in recognition of his contribution to the independence of the judiciary.Mr Justice S. Rakoff, Chairperson of the Honours Committee of the association, has requested Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry to accept this high honour. He has also requested the chief justice to visit the US at his convenience before spring for conferment of the award.

PESHAWAR: Peshawar High Court (PHC) Chief Justice, Justice Tariq Pervaiz has taken a suo motto notice of the incident of violence against lawyers on the eve of the presidential election. Chief Justice Tariq Pervaiz, taking suo motto notice of the yesterday’s violence perpetrated on the lawyers outside NWFP Assembly, has summoned Peshawar Police Chief, Abdul Majeed Marwat along with the record. The lawyers on the eve of presidential election yesterday were protesting outside the NWFP Assembly, when the police armoured vehicle dashed past the lawyers’ gathering, which resulted in the injury to several lawyers including the PHC Bar President, Abdul Latif Afridi. An FIR of this incident nominating Peshawar SSP and DSP was also got registered in the Police Station (East). Later, the lawyers had torched the armoured vehicle.
