Awaz Apni TEHRAN: Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad survived an attack with a homemade explosive device on his motorcade during a visit to the western city of Hamadan on Wednesday, a source in his office said. The source said Ahmadinejad's convoy was targeted as he was travelling from Hamadan's airport to give a speech in a local sports arena and the president was unhurt but others had been injured in the blast. One person had been arrested, the presidency source said. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack. The populist, hardline Ahmadinejad has accumulated enemies in conservative and reformist circles in the Islamic Republic as well as abroad. CNews TEHRAN: Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has said that Iran would not retreat in the face of demands by world powers for Tehran to halt sensitive nuclear work. "Taking one step back against arrogant (powers) will lead to them to take one step forward," Khamenei was quoted as saying by state television in a sermon. His comments come ahead of a Saturday deadline for Iran to respond to a package of incentives aimed at persuading it to freeze uranium enrichment, a process that makes nuclear fuel but also the core of an atomic bomb. CNews WASHINGTON: White House hopeful Barack Obama believes Israel will launch a military strike on Iran if nuclear sanctions fail, according to a US news agency. The comment was reportedly made in a meeting late Tuesday between Senator Obama and Democratic members of the House of Representatives, following the presidential contender's return from an overseas tour that included Israel. "Nobody said this to me directly, but I get the feeling from my talks that if the sanctions don't work, Israel is going to strike Iran," an attendee at the meeting quoted Obama as saying, according to the news agency. Meanwhile, Obama's national security spokeswoman Wendy Morigi declined to comment on the substance of the report. But she stressed: "Senator Obama has always said that Iran must end its illicit nuclear program".

CNews TEHERAN: Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is planning to make his first visit to Iraq within the next two months, the foreign minister said on Monday. "The trip has become definitive and he will go on this trip by the end of the year," Manouchehr Mottaki told reporters, referring to the Iranian year which ends on March 20. Last week, Baghdad said Ahmadinejad has accepted an invitation from President Jalal Talabani to visit Iraq but no date had been fixed.
