Quake rattles Pakistan

Awaz Apni ISLAMABAD: A strong earthquake jolted upper parts of Pakistan early Monday.According to sources, the quake magnitude was reported 5.7 on Richter scale while its epicenter was in the remote Hindu Kush mountain range.Tremors were felt in Islamabad, Peshawar, Swat, Chitral, Gilgit, Buner, Lahore, Mirpur Azad Kashmir, Abbotabad, Balakot, Mansehra, Batgram, Kohat, Hangu and Karak.Meanwhile, people in panic have come out of their homes. However, there were no immediate reports of any casualties or damage.

Rain, snowfall continue in northern, hilly areas

CNews MANSEHRA: The sequence of rain and snowfall in the northern and mountainous areas persisted, triggering low gas pressure causing inconvenience to the people, however, several link roads have been cleared of the piles of snow allowing free-flow of traffic. Following several days of downpours in the NWFP districts of Mardan, Charsadda, Naushehra, Dir and Sangla including Peshawar the sky is clear. Swat’s upper areas including Bahrain, Kalam, Utrot and others have received several feet of snow. District Mansehra and Balakot due to snowfall witnessing chill weather. The biting cold shooting up demand for fuel triggered low pressure at CNG pumps and household supply of natural gas unleashing hardships to the people. Quetta, Chaman, Qalat, Mastung, Ziarat, Loralai, Zhob and other areas continued to be hit by severe cold, while the low pressure of gas has added miseries for the people. Musharraf pays a brief visit to quake-hit Mansehra

MANSEHRA: President General Pervez Musharraf paid a brief visit to the earthquake-affected district here on the eve of the completion of the two years since October 8 catastrophe. President General Pervez Musharraf inaugurated a high school constructed with the cooperation of a Turkish NGO at a place called Chatta Butta. Later, he also inaugurated the construction of a 65-kilometre long MNJ Road at Sanday Sarkay, which would cost Rs2.75 billion. Talking to the elected representatives on this occasion, President Musharraf said that the roads were being constructed in the quake-devastated areas for the promotion of tourism. He said that Shahrah-e-Kaghan would be connected with the Shahrah-e-Karakoram besides a tunnel would be constructed at Babu Sartap for linking northern areas with Hazara Division, which would be very useful for the construction of Bhasha Dam also.
