LONDON: Describing the unresolved Kashmir issue as a threat to global peace and security, British parliamentarians have called for general elections in both parts of the divided Himalayan region under a neutral supervision for electing a genuine leadership reflecting the people aspirations. A number of British MPS expressed their views at the House of Commons last evening where the former Azad Kashmir Prime Minister Barrister Sultan Mahmud Chaudhary was the chief guest. The host was hosted by Birmingham MP Khalid Mahmud and chaired by Lord Nazir Ahmad. Among the MPS who spoke on the occasion included Humphrey Millan, Fiona MacTaggat, David Hemming, Paul Rowan, Stewart Jackson, Rob Flellof and David Lemmington. CNews LONDON: The Commonwealth re-admitted Pakistan as a full member on Monday after a six-month suspension triggered by imposition of emergency in Pakistan on November 3, 2007.The suspension was lifted after a meeting of key ministers of the 53-nation Commonwealth in London.The Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group (CMAG) agreed that since November "the government of Pakistan has taken positive steps to fulfil its obligations in accordance with Commonwealth fundamental values and principles." Commonwealth also urged Pakistan to "reinforce the independence of the judiciary and resolve current issues through the parliamentary process as soon as possible so that it contributes to democratic political stability in Pakistan.""There (is) need for reform. In this regard it welcomes the new government's state intention to reform the election commission and enhance its independence," the statement added.
