Earthquake hits near northern coast Indonesia

Awaz Apni Indonesia: A powerful 7.6-magnitude earthquake has struck near the northern coast of Indonesia's largest province, triggering a possible tsunami. The tremor hit about 150 kilometers northwest of Manokwari, a community in the Indonesian province of Papua, at 4:43 a.m. local time. There have been no immediate reports of injuries or damage. Indonesia was hit be another strong earthquake last November with a magnitude of about 6.8, but it did not trigger a tsunami.

Awaz Apni JAKARTA: Magnitude 7.2 earthquake struck at sea to the southwest of Manokwari in Indonesia's West Papua province early Sunday, the geophysics agency said in a text message alert, warning also of a tsunami.No casualty was reported in immediate reports, it said.The tremor, which hit at a shallow depth of 10 kilometres (six miles), struck at 4:43 am (1943 GMT Saturday), about 135 kilometres from Manokwari, Indonesia's Meteorology and Geophysics Agency said.
