HUNZA: The administration has asked for three more days as the deadline to widening the Ataabad Lake spillway expired, said sources Tuesday. The affectees of Shishkit and Gilmat had given the administration the deadline of June 29, 2010 but the Force Commander Gilgit-Baltistan General Javed Bajwa asked for three more days for the widening of Ataabad Lake spillway. “Negotiations will be held with the affectees of Shishkit and Gilmat with the consultation of Frontier Works Organization ,” said Force Commander Gilgit Baltistan. Today, the water outflow from Ataabad Lake was recorded at 15,876 cusecs while the water level has risen up to 2 inches during the last 12 hours. It is to be noted that a protest was held on June 18 and 19 in Tehsil Gojal and Ali Abad demanding the spillway to be widened. Water outflow up in Hunza Lake Awaz Apni The breach appeared in the Hunza Lake due to blasting caused increase in the water outflow on Sunday. Both the boat and helicopter services have been resumed, whereas the lake level is down by one and a half feet. Change in weather caused decline in the water inflow to 20,000 cusecs, while demolishing of the houses has also been stopped. The locals however are protesting against the discrimination in carrying people to the other side through the boat service. They also complained of non-provision of life jackets.
