Awaz Apni Karachi: Work came to a halt on Thursday at the Jinnah Post Medical Centre (JPMC) when the nurses’ protest, initially scheduled for two hours, lasted for the whole day with the paramedical staff joining in to show their support. The staff chanted slogans against the administration and refused to work. The protests started when a third-year nursing student was found unconscious near the 96 Doctors’ Backyard Mess. After being examined, the girl was found to be gang-raped and tortured. An FIR was filed against Dr Jabbar Memon who is said to be the accused. The incident sparked off a spate of protests at the JPMC, which has halted work at one of the major public hospitals in Karachi. The protest intensified when Adviser to Sindh Chief Minister Sharmila Farooqui visited the young girl at the Intensive Care Unit.
