Blast hits Pakistani police post

CNews Lahore: At least five people have died in a suspected bomb blast near a police post in the Pakistani city of Lahore. At least twenty people were hurt in the explosion. It is unclear if the blast was caused by a suicide bomber. The attack comes as Pakistan prepares to celebrate the 61st anniversary of its independence on Thursday. Pakistani security forces are often attacked by Islamist militants allied to the Taleban militia based in the rugged north-west of the country. Twelve militants were killed in a missile strike in north-western Pakistan on Tuesday. Thirteen people also died in the north-western city of Peshawar in a bomb attack on an air force bus on Tuesday. Thursday's attack in Lahore appears to have targeted policemen on guard duty for the Independence Day celebrations. Five policemen killed, 20 injured in suicide blast in Lahore

CNews Lahore: Five policemen were killed and 20 others injured today in a suicide attack outside a police station in a busy area in this eastern Pakistani city that was crowded with people celebrating on the eve of the country's Independence Day. The suicide bomber blew himself up outside a police station near Moon Market, one of the largest bazars in the posh Allama Iqbal Town locality, officials said. The market was packed with people out celebrating ahead of Pakistan's 61st Independence Day. Five policemen were killed instantly and 20 others were injured, police officials were quoted as saying by Reporter. Five of the policemen injured in the blast, which occurred at about 11.30 pm (Pakistan time), were in a serious condition.
