CNews SRINAGAR: Security forces enforced a strict curfew in the occupied Kashmir on Sunday and detained Yasin Malik to prevent him from holding a pro-independence rally.The curfew was in force in the summer capital Srinagar and other Muslim-majority towns ahead of Monday's planned rally at the main city's Red Square, or Lal Chowk. According to Kashmir Media Service, policemen used loudspeakers to urge residents to stay indoors. Thousands of troops have been deployed around the venue, with all entry points blocked by fencing and barbed wire. Police sealed off many neighbourhoods in Srinagar with barbed wire and warned people against defying the curfew.Late Saturday night police detained senior separatist Yasin Malik in a raid near Red Square. CNews SRINAGAR: Indian police say they have issued orders to shoot protesters defying a curfew in Indian-controlled Kashmir.Senior police official Hemant Lohia said the order was given Wednesday following widespread curfew violations the day before in which 15 people were martyred including APHC leader, Shaikh Abdul Aziz.Violence has roiled the Himalayan region since June 23 when Muslims and Hindus began tit-for-tat protests over a government proposal to transfer land to a Hindu shrine in India's only Muslim-majority state."Curfew has to be implemented fully and we've ordered shoot at sight to discourage protests," says Lohia. "This last option becomes the first in order not to let the situation go out of hand."

CNews Srinagar, Oct 11: Militants on Thursday carried out a suicide attack on the CRPF battalion headquarters housed in a hotel along the banks of the famous Dal Lake here this evening in which one of the bombers was killed after a fierce gun-battle. The attack in the tourist hub of the city, coming after a period of lull in terror attacks in the state capital, happened around the time when Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad was hosting an iftaar party at the nearby Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC). Militants hurled a grenade and followed it by firing on the sentry post at the main gate of the headquarters of 144th battalion at Boulevard Road along the banks of the Dal Lake this evening triggering a gunfight, CRPF spokesman P Tripathy said. The incident happened around 6.30 pm. "One militant died and we are assessing the situation," he said. The encounter was still continuing in the night.
