Sony PSP 2 (NGP) vs. Samsung Galaxy S – Graphics

CNET Games: Following on from other news of the Sony PSP 2 (NGP) we have more news to bring you, this time about the type of graphics you can expect from the new handheld device. With its ARM Cortex-A9 core CPU and SGX543MP4+ GPUs, you can be assured that they have improved vastly. This means the PSP2/NGP has a central processing unit with 4 cores and an advanced graphics processing unit also with 4 cores. For other spec information about the NGP read Alan Ng's article here. Imagination Technologies, who manufacture mobile graphics, explained that this quad-core GPU has a wider data path, therefore double the shader performance of previous versions. Treyarch Thanks COD: Black Ops Fans on Facebook

CNET Games: When Call of Duty: Black Ops developer Treyarch posted a simple thank you to their fans on the popular social networking website Facebook recently, I don't think they were quite expecting the response they got. In fact, the message of gratitude appears to have backfired on them. As you all know, the Call of Duty: Black Ops game has suffered several issues since it was first released last November, despite the fact of having received numerous patches. As Luke Connolly from shadowlocked.com reports, fans decided to use Treyarch's message as an opportunity to voice their opinions. Soon after Treyarch posted their thank you message (for surpassing 5 million fans on the website), the Facebook page – which you can view here – was awash with criticism. For example, one person suggested that Treyarch didn't have 5 million fans, but 5 million people waiting for the game to be fixed. Some even went as far as describing the COD: Black Ops game as t

Kojima on Sony NGP and PS3 Quality Games

CNET Games: Sony's PlayStation Portable 2 – or Next Generation Portable (NGP) as it is also known – has been creating quite a buzz in the world of gaming for quite some time now, even before it was officially announced during the recent PlayStation Meeting in Japan. Besides revealing the impressive specs for the NGP, Sony also announced the line-up of games that will be available for the upcoming handheld device. As Alan NG previously reported, this will include portable versions of the PlayStation 3's Uncharted and Call of Duty. One of the most interesting reveals of them all however, was the one that came from Hideo Kojima of Konami Digital Entertainment. Kojima – creator and director of the Metal Gear Solid series – unveiled a tech demo, which showed Metal Gear Solid 4 running on the NGP. As Debabrata Nath over at gamingbolt.com recently reported, Kojima unveiled the Metal Gear Solid 4 demo in order to prove to everyone that it is possible to develop

Pre-Order Verizon iPhone 4 Loop Hole, Must See Feb 3rd NOT Feb 10th

CNET Analysis: TheRecoveringBanker.com | http I figured out how NON-EXISTING or EXISTING Verizon Customers can pre-order the Verizon iPhone on February 3rd instead of waiting until February 10th. I have 2 lines with Verizon now, and I wanted to port in my AT&T iPhone Number and upgrade to the Verizon iPhone 4, but Verizon told me, I wasn’t considered an existing customer, since I wasn’t UPGRADING my line. So I thought to myself, what if I added a line now, with my own phone with out a contract, and then on February 3rd upgraded that new line to a Verizon iPhone 4? Well, that’s exactly what I did, and it worked like a charm. I talked to one of my friends that works for Verizon, and he told me he didn’t think that it would work, and he said they would know I was trying to beat the system. So I said, I don’t have much to lose, besides $10 a month, and a simple activation fee, which I will have to pay anyway when I buy the Verizon iPhone I have to pay that fee

PlayStation Move Heroes: Bundle and Demo Announced

CNET Games: We have some exciting news now for those of you waiting for the much-anticipated PlayStation Move Heroes (previously known as Heroes on the Move) game to arrive, as Sony has just announced a bundle for Nihilistic Software's action-adventure title. There is a bit of disappointing news however, as it appears the PlayStation Move Heroes bundle will be sold exclusively in North America. According to a recent article by Stephany Nunneley over at vg247.com , the bundle will be available at Toys "R" Us stores at a price of $99.99. The bundle includes a copy of the PlayStation Move Heroes game, a PlayStation Move motion controller and a PlayStation Eye camera. Sony also revealed the official box art for the upcoming game, which can be viewed over on the blog.us.playstation.com website. If that news isn't quite enough for you, then you might be pleased to know that a demo will also be arriving pretty soon. According to Debabrata Nath at gam

SOCOM 4: New Multiplayer Screenshots, Details and Preview

CNET Games: Information on the upcoming SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs game – which will be released exclusively for the PlayStation 3 – appears to be coming in thick and fast at the moment. Just yesterday we brought you news on the official US release date and the recently revealed multiplayer trailer. Now it appears that Sony Computer Entertainment America has just released even more details for Zipper Interactive's third-person tactical shooter, including multiplayer screenshots and the official box art. As Shui Ta at examiner.com reports, the SOCOM 4 game comes with PlayStation Move support. Tutorial: 15 advanced Windows Media Center tips

CNETAnalysis: Windows Media Center is a cracking piece of software. It works elegantly if you’re sitting at your desk, and equally well if you’re reclining on your sofa, waving a remote control and watching a movie. However, despite its many advantages and undeniable prettiness, Media Center does have its foibles and limitations. He we’ll identify and remove its biggest drawbacks. 1. Play MKV video files in Windows Media Center Many high definition videos come in MKV file format, which you can play back in VLC Media Player, but not in Windows Media Center. To fix this, download and install ffdshow tryouts . With 64-bit Windows you’ll also need the 64-bit SVN, which you can get from the same place. Also install Gabest’s Matroska Splitters . You need to associate MKV files with Windows Media Center. To do this, simply open Media Center, right-click the top menu and choose ‘File > Open’. Select ‘Any File’ in the ‘File Type’ box and browse to an M

Motorola Atrix: Price and Release Date on Amazon

CNET Analysis: We have some exciting news for those of you planning to pick up the dual-core equipped Motorola Atrix smartphone on release, as it looks as if online retailer Amazon may have revealed pricing a little prematurely. If you didn’t know already, Motorola are calling this handset the ‘most powerful smartphone in the world’ and with a dual-core 1GHz Tegra 2 processor at the helm, it’s certainly going to pack a few punches. Other key specs include a 4-inch capacitive gorilla glass touchscreen, a 5 megapixel camera with 720p video recording, 16GB of internal memory and Android OS 2.2 Froyo running with Motoblur UI. As reported from Engadget , Amazon recently posted pricing details for the handset, before quickly removing them once they caught on to it. Crysis 2: PC Gamers to Get Multiplayer Demo

CNET Games: A few days ago we announced that a multiplayer demo for the much-awaited Crysis 2 game would be making its way onto Xbox Live Arcade this week. At that time it appeared that the demo was just an Xbox 360 exclusive, but now we have news to prove otherwise. According to Matthew Reynolds over at digitalspy.co.uk (via Eurogamer), both Crytek and Electronic Arts have just announced that the multiplayer demo will now be heading to the PC as well. Although they didn't mention a specific release date, we're sure it won't be too long away. The recent announcement follows complaints about the demo – which as previously mentioned features two gameplay modes (Crash Site and Team Instant Action) – only being made available for the Xbox 360. Crytek did however explain why they announced it as an Xbox 360-only demo. According to Andy Chalk over at escapistmagazine.com , community rep Adam Johnson said that if the developer had announced that the demo w

SOCOM 4: Multiplayer Trailer / Official US Release Date

CNET Games: A couple of weeks ago we brought you an update on the release of Zipper Interactive's much-anticipated third-person shooter title, SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs (known everywhere else as SOCOM: Special Forces). Although all we knew at that stage, was that it was due to arrive sometime in April. However, Sony has now announced an official US release date for the upcoming game, which according to Brenna Hillier over at vg247.com (via US PS Blog ) is April 19th. There is more good news for SOCOM fans as well, as Sony has also released a brand new multiplayer trailer for SOCOM 4. There doesn't appear to be any word on European, UK or Australian release dates yet. According to Tom Ivan at computerandvideogames.com , Sony said that there's no confirmed UK release date for the PlayStation Move compatible title at this moment in time. SOCOM 4 was originally meant to arrive in stores back in 2010, but it was pushed back to 2011 to give the developer a

Early View: Motorola Xoom vs iPad vs PlayBook

CNETAnalysis: When the Motorola Xoom and BlackBerry PlayBook hit the market, we’ll have two serious challengers to the iPad. And, perhaps most interestingly, all three will be running different operating systems. So let’s compare how the two newcomers stack up against the hottest tablet yet released. In terms of releases, Motorola won’t say anything about the Xoom’s UK release date, though it is pencilled in for the first quarter of 2011 in the US. However, it depends on when Google is planning on getting Honeycomb out the door. iPad 2 rumours: what you need to know Likewise we should be seeing the PlayBook arrive in the Spring or early Summer. And, of course, around that time we’ll also be expecting iPad 2, so we’ll be updating this piece when we know more about that new device. OS This is the biggest difference between the three tablets. The iPad runs Apple’s own iOS, the Moto Xoom Android 3.0 Honeycomb and the BlackBerry PlayBook runs RIM’s own bespoke Tab

Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Roster: Final 2 Characters Revealed

CNET Games: It may have taken quite a bit of time and several character reveals, but we finally know the full roster for the upcoming Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds game. Just last week we announced that Taskmaster and Akuma had been added to the list, which left two final fighters to be revealed. According to a recent article over at vg247.com by Stephany Nunneley, Capcom has just revealed that the final two characters to be added to the Marvel vs. Capcom 3 roster are Sentinel and Hsien-ko. The developer has also released a couple of gameplay videos, which show both fighters in action. You can view the character trailers (courtesy of Eurogamer) via the VG247 website. A few screenshots for the MvC3 game – which will be available for the PS3 and Xbox 360 on February 15th in the US and February 18th in Europe – have also been released, and can be seen on the eurogamer.net website. As Tamoor Hussain from the computerandvideogames.com website recently repo

Sony NGP Vs Nintendo 3DS: PSP2 Wins Battery Life Battle?

CNET Games: We’ve talked about how Sony failed to go into detail about the exact quality of the two cameras featured on the new NGP handheld system, but another important aspect which Sony didn’t talk about is the battery life on the device. Lucky for you, we have now been informed about what the device will be able to churn out, and according to this report from Eurogamer , the Next Generation Portable will be able to manage around 4-5 hours of gaming time. It’s nothing amazing, considering the original PSP1 could handle a good five to seven hours of gameplay with no problems, but it’s still somewhat better than the rumored three to five hours that the upcoming Nintendo 3DS handheld can manage. Until we have some benchmark hands-on comparisons of both devices to show you, we shouldn’t jump to conclusions that Sony has already got the nod over Nintendo in terms of battery life. If you have seen some of the videos from Sony’s NGP event in Japan yesterday, you”ll

Sony NGP (PSP2): Price Expectations before Release

CNET Games: As most of you will probably be aware, Sony decided not to give any indications about a potential price point for their just announced Next Generation Portable , or NGP as they are calling it for the moment. But that hasn’t stopped the rumors from flying around the internet as to Sony’s likely price for the system. We wrote an article recently informing you that the PSP2 may come in at $299 at the least, and after seeing what Sony brought to the table – we are sticking by those claims. You can pick up a 160GB PS3 console from Amazon now for $299, but don’t be surprised if the NGP ends up being higher than it’s console counterpart. If we were to take a guess as to the final price of the handheld, we’re going to place it between $299 and $399, as Sony has already confirmed that it will be ‘affordable’. With that in mind, you definitely don’t want to believe GameStop’s predictions for the device, as a listing put on their website (now removed) put the

Carnival Games: In Action – New Xbox 360 Kinect Title Announced

CNET Games: If you've ever played Carnival Games on the Nintendo Wii or DS, then you might like to know that 2K Play has just announced that its subsidiary studio Cat Daddy Games is currently working on a similar title that will be available exclusively for the Xbox 360 Kinect. According to Alexander Hinkley at examiner.com , the new game is called Carnival Games: In Action, and looks as though it will be pretty much the same as the original Nintendo Wii game, which included numerous mini-games such as Lucky Cups, Hoops and Day at the Races. As the official press release notes, the Carnival Games: In Action title is being built from the ground up specifically for the Kinect. The game will feature five different theme-park style alleyways, which will include games such as Hot Air Balloon Race and Rocket to Mars. Rage, Brink and Hunted: Official Release Dates Revealed

CNET Games: If you're an Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 or PC gamer who's been waiting to hear about release dates for games such as Brink, Rage or Hunted: The Demon's Forge, then we have some great news for you. Bethesda Softworks has not only revealed details for just one game, but all three. According to a recent article by Debabrata Nath over at gamingbolt.com , Brink – the much-awaited first-person shooter that is being developed by Splash Damage – will be released on May 17th in North America, and a few days later on May 20th in the UK. As Tom Orry from the videogamer.com website recently reported, the Brink game hasn't exactly had the easiest of developments, and has unfortunately suffered a few delays. It was originally meant to arrive in the spring of 2010. Hunted: The Demon's Forge is the next Bethesda Softworks title to be released. The third-person fantasy action game will be arriving in North American stores on June 1st, while European

Android Honeycomb: 10 things you need to know

CNETAnalysis: Google unveiled its tablet-specific Android 3.0 OS at CES to a flurry of excitement thanks to some pretty exciting new tablet-focused additions to the already impressive OS. But, with a preview of the SDK only just released to developers , we won’t be seeing Honeycomb on our Android tablets for a little while; in the meantime, whet your appetite with our round-up of the key new features. There’ll be 3D-effect graphics You can’t swing a cat without hitting something 3D (literally) in the tech world these days, and Google knows it. Honeycomb offers developers the opportunity to use high-performance 3D graphics which should offer no noticeable lag, even with the extra rendering required. Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance – Details and Trailer

CNET Games: We have great news now for those of you who have been waiting to hear more about the upcoming Nintendo 3DS title Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, as the game's designer Tetsuya Nomura has recently revealed a few more details in the latest issue of Famitsu. According to Thomas East over at comupterandvideogames.com (via Andriasang ), Nomura said that the new RPG will feature Disney Worlds. We don't know what these will be however, as Square-Enix appear to be focusing more on Sora and Riku rather than the Disney part of the game. It had previously been suggested that players would be able to switch between Sora and Riku, but Nomura said that it would be forced upon gamers rather than by choice. In other words, players will just suddenly switch between the two characters whilst in battle. We've also learned that the 3D effects will be used to show things entering the screen rather than coming out of it. The very first trailer for the
