LAHORE: Javed Miandad has been appointed Director General of Pakistan Cricket Board, a board announcement said on Wednesday. Talking to One World veteran cricketer said he will work for restoration of the prestige of Pakistan cricket.Miandad said that he started his cricket from streets and is well acquainted with the problems of the sport. He said he has prepared a strategy for solution of the problems faced by the sport. On questions regarding batsman Muhammad Yousaf and fast bowler Shoaib Akhtra, Javed Miandad said these matters were not related with his new PCB job. He said he can provide advice and extend help to cricketers on problems and can guide them about their sports skills but these matters are out of the purview of his job.

CNews NEW DELHI: Indian Premier League (IPL) also banned Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar, following the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announcement banning the player for five years, saying Thursday Shoaib cannot play cricket in India. IPL commissioner Lalith Modi, said that Shoaib Akhtar cannot play for IPL according to the IPL law until the PCB clears him, as chairman PCB banned him from playing not only the domestic cricket but also international cricket. Replying to a question, Lalith Modi said that the IPL law says that it cannot allow a player who is banned by the cricket board of his own country. On the other hand, the Indian Cricket League (ICL) Chairman Kapil Dev said the restriction may end Shoaib’s career, adding he feels sorry for the cricketer; however, it seems quite strange to take such a player who is banned in his own country. CNews ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) sued fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar for 200 million rupees (three million dollars) on Thursday for making allegedly defamatory comments after he was banned for five years. Shoaib Akhtar was banned by the PCB on Tuesday, a move that effectively ends his career after a series of disciplinary problems culminating in a public outburst against the board for not giving him a contract. "We demand immediate retraction of allegations from Shoaib Akhtar in various statements which were malicious and baseless," PCB chairman Dr Nasim Ashraf told a foreign news agency. "He must apologise and pay damages of 100 million rupees to the PCB and damages of 100 million rupees to me." CNews LAHORE: Fast bowler Shoaib Akhter reaching Lahore today to file an appeal against fiver years ban imposed on him by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).Talking to Geo News before departure, Shoaib said that he would file the appeal at any cost and he made consultation with lawyer in this connection.The appeal would be filed today or tomorrow according to the advise of lawyer, Shoaib added.

CNews LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board banned fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar on Thursday for 13 international matches and fined him 3.4 million rupees (56,000 dollars) for hitting a teammate with a bat. Akhtar struck fellow fast bowler Mohammad Asif after team practice in Johannesburg before the start of the inaugural Twenty20 World Cup last month. He was expelled from the team and sent back home. "He has been banned for 13 international matches consecutively -- it will start from the first Twenty20 match in South Africa" last month, the board's chief operating officer Shafqat Naghmi said.

CNews Lahore, Oct 11: Controversial Pakistani fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar was handed a 13 match ban and a fine of 60,000 pounds by the PCB for breaching team discipline. The ban on Shoaib comes after his much-publicized spat with team mate Mohammed Asif.
