Water board handed to CDGK again

CNews KARACHI: The government of Sindh Saturday issued notification regarding the handing of Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) to the City District Government of Karachi (CDGK).It should be mentioned that Sindh government took over KWSB two months ago on April 25, 2008, after which the differences appeared between the city government of Karachi and the government of Sindh. After taking over, Sindh government appointed the provincial minister for Local Bodies as its chairman.According to sources, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah sent to the chief secretary a summary regarding handing the KWSB to the city government.The Local Government Katchi Abadi also issued notice from Special Development Department, according to which City Nazim Mustafa Kamal would be the Chairman of the water board and MPA Haji Munawwar Abbasi its Vice Chairman.The board will comprise 15 members. According to sources, transfers of officers are expected on large scale in the board.

NWFP government, local Taliban ratify peace truce

CNews PESHAWAR: NWFP government and local Taliban have agreed to a peace agreement under which “Shariah” laws will be promulgated in Sawat and Malakand districts and security forces will be withdrawn, while the Taliban have agreed to acknowledge the writ of the government. Senior Minister of NWFP Bashir Ahmad Bilour said government and local Taliban have agreed on 15 points. Under the agreement, there would be a ban on display of weapons and training camps of militants would be eliminated. Talking to media, Bilour said Imam Dherai would be turned into an Islamic university and local Taliban would fully corporate with government. Responding to a question, he said there would be a gradual withdrawal of security forces and Islamic laws would be enforced in Sawat and Malakand. Kamal no more chairman of KWSB, KBCA

CNews Karachi:City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal is no more a chairman of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) and Karachi Building Control Authority (KBCA).According to sources the Sindh government on Thursday terminated office of the city nazim as chairman of the two major city institutions, a development which sources said is likely to give a fresh setback to the ongoing reconciliation process between the ruling Pakistan Peoples' Party (PPP) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).They said the PPP-led Sindh government dissolved the administrative Board and Authority of the KWSB and KBCA, of which the Karachi Nazim was a chairman.They said Agha Siraj Khan Durrani, Provincial Minister for Local Government, would take over chairmanship of the two institutions.When contacted spokesman of Sindh Information Department said his office had nor received any notification and officials in Chief Minister House were may confirm the development.
