Shilpa Shetty arrested over Gere clinch again

NEW DELHI: Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty has been arrested in India over her infamous clinch with Richard Gere.'The Celebrity Big Brother' winner shed tears after being stopped at Mumbai Airport, according to reports, on her way to the opening of the Miss Bollywood musical in Berlin.Hollywood star Gere, 58, caused an outcry when he grabbed Shetty, 32, swept her backwards, and kissed her several times on the cheek at an Aids-awareness event earlier this year.Crowds burned posters of the two stars in protest at the kiss. Conservative hard-line Hindus claimed that the pair violated the country's anti-obscenity laws.Shetty was held at Mumbai Airport by immigration officials who had no record of a Supreme Court ruling which overturned a ban on her leaving the country. They said she was still wanted for obscenity charges over the kiss. The star was only allowed to join the dance troupe performing with her at the Miss Bollywood musical after prolonged questioning. Her spokesman, Dale Bhagwagar, said: "She called me in the middle of the night and was in tears." Shetty said: "I can understand something like this if I'd committed a criminal offence. But what was my offence, when I'm just an actor, going to perform a musical on foreign land."After the April incident, a regional court in India issued an arrest warrant against Gere, star of films like 'Pretty Woman' and 'Chicago', and barred Shilpa from traveling abroad. But its ruling was overturned by the Supreme Court.Gere swooped down on Shetty after shouting in Hindi to thousands of truckers "No condom, no sex".Shetty went on to defend the actor, saying "so much has been blown out of proportion", and Gere apologised for causing offence.

In Depth: Could robots be the writers of the future?

CNETAnalysis: It might be concerned with aliens, outer space and dimensional jumping for now, but ‘sci-fi’ might have to be redefined if the latest advances in automated writing continue apace. Software that can construct sentences, analyse data and even put a ‘spin’ on a news story are threatening to make the newsdesk and the author’s writing room very different places. The end for journalists? Journalism isn’t complicated. The popularity of online news stories can be tracked – and therefore the importance of news easily ranked – while almost everything is written using the inverted pyramid structure . Since automated writing software can already do most of that, are we looking at the last generation of human journalists? Narrative Science’s Quill is the leading automated writing software title. It transforms structured data into readable, plain English stories that are identical to those written by humans, ...
