CNews ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court on Friday stayed implementation of lower courts decisions regarding National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) and said that these decisions would not be implemented till the verdict of apex court.
The court has issued notices to the parties.
A four member Supreme Court bench, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry taking up five petitions challenging the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) 2007.
Other members of the bench include Justice Sardar Muhammad Raza Khan, Justice Muhammad Nawaz Abbasi and Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan.
In his remarks at the opening of hearing, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said that this is an important case and attorney general should appoint assistant for court.
The apex court directed to stop implementation on different clauses of NBR.
The lawyer of petitioner Dr. Mobashir Hassan during his arguments said that NBR has been issued for a particular class, which is a pardon cover for political wrongdoings.
The court has adjourned the hearing for three weeks.
Dr Mobashir Hassan, Roedad Khan, Qazi Hussain Ahmed and Tariq Asad and Dr Aslam Khaki had challenged the NRO in the apex court.
