Benazir murder case under UN study

CNews ISLAMABAD: The ministry of law and justice has moved a summary to foreign ministry seeking the United Nations probe into assassination of former prime minister Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, minister for Foreign Affairs Shah Mehmood Qureshi told media on Wednesday. The summary, prepared in context of the resolution passed by the National Assembly, is under study of the foreign ministry and it would soon be referred to the prime minister for seeking international community's support, Qureshi said. Pakistan People's Party chairperson and former prime minister, MohtarmaBenazir Bhutto was assassinated in 12/27 terrorist attacks after a large public gathering at Liaqat Bagh in Rawalpindi. The PPP had demanded for UN probe into the assassination of BB, however, the PML-Q led government had declined to accept the demand and invited Britain Scotland Yard Police for investigation. "The Prime Minister would formally request the UN for investigation," the minister added. Replying to a question, the FM said that the government was taking serious efforts for release of the abducted ambassador Tariq Azizuddin, however, he could not fix any accurate date for his release and said," the nation especially heirs of Tariq Azizuddin will hear a good new soon." "We can not reveal the details of talks or his whereabouts due to sensitivity of the matter," Qureshi said. He said composite dialogue process between Pakistan and India would resume on May 21 as experts from across the border are scheduled to review the progress made so far in confidence building measures (CBMs). "They would review the results of fourth round of talks and then plan the agenda for fifth round to be held after the meeting," the minister said.
