CNews ISLAMABAD: The Federal Government has filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the disqualification of Nawaz Sharif.
Deputy Attorney General (DAG), Raja Abdur Rahman filing the petition made a plea that Nawaz Sharif’s case was important and, therefore, it should be heard today.
Earlier, DAG talking to the media said, “Our constitutional stance is that under article 225, it was Election Tribunal’s authority. We have attached two more requests along with our petition—first, the SC should suspend the High Court’s decision and if this order gets suspended, then Mian Nawaz Sharif in turn becomes eligible for contesting election. Alternatively, we have prayed that the election be postponed until the decision of this petition,” he elaborated. He further said that we would first try getting the Lahore High Court’s order suspended and Mian Nawaz Sharif becomes the MNA.
