PPP to field Zardari for presidency

CNews RAWALPINDI: Leader of the House in Senate Raza Rabbani Saturday said that Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) unanimously decided to field party Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari to contest the presidential election.

Addressing a press conference here flanked by various party leaders including Khurshid Shah, Sherry Rehman, he said PPP never deceived the people of Pakistan.

He said it was the first time in the history of Pakistan that the efforts led by the coalition parties under the leadership of Asif Ali Zardari sent home the dictator of the time.

Raza Rabbani said that all the members of PPP parliamentary parties decided with consensus that Zardari should contest presidential elections.

He said Asif Ali Zardari would be the next president of Pakistan and all coalition partners have been informed in this connection.

"Mr Asif Zardari has accepted to contest the election for the office of president of Pakistan after the party unanimously drafted him to do so," PPP deputy secretary general Raza Rabbani told reporters.

Regarding the judges issue, he said the judges would definitively be restored, adding he cannot give timeframe for the restoration; however, the coalition has already instituted a committee for the purpose.

Earlier addressing a press after meeting with Nawaz Sharif at Jati Umra, Raiwind, Raza Rabbani said PPP has informed PML-N about the nomination of Asif Ali Zardari as presidential candidate by its central executive committee.

Rabbani said that Mian Nawaz Sharif informed that PML-N would take decision in this regard in its parliamentary party meeting.

To a question, he said that PPP and PML-N had already constituted a five-member committee comprising Raza Rabbani, Farooq Naik and Sherry Rehman from PPP and Ishaq Dar and Ahsen Iqbal from PML-N to prepare the draft of the resolution to be tabled in Parliament on Monday regarding reinstatement of judges.

In Depth: Could robots be the writers of the future?

CNETAnalysis: It might be concerned with aliens, outer space and dimensional jumping for now, but ‘sci-fi’ might have to be redefined if the latest advances in automated writing continue apace. Software that can construct sentences, analyse data and even put a ‘spin’ on a news story are threatening to make the newsdesk and the author’s writing room very different places. The end for journalists? Journalism isn’t complicated. The popularity of online news stories can be tracked – and therefore the importance of news easily ranked – while almost everything is written using the inverted pyramid structure . Since automated writing software can already do most of that, are we looking at the last generation of human journalists? Narrative Science’s Quill is the leading automated writing software title. It transforms structured data into readable, plain English stories that are identical to those written by humans, ...
