SA adopts impeachment resolution; MQM stays away

CNews KARACHI: Sindh Assembly passed the resolution regarding the impeachment of President Pervez Musharraf today (Wednesday).As many as 94 MPAs cast their vote in favour of the resolution.Sindh Minister for Law Ayaz Soomro presented the resolution in the house. While, the Leader of Opposition Jam Madad Ali said, ‘The government is taking an unconstitutional step, therefore we shall not take part in today’s proceedings in the assembly.’Ayaz Soomro said President Pervez Musharraf has outlived his usefulness.The resolution demanded Pervez Musharraf to quit presidency or take confidence vote from the assembly.The resolution was voted by 89 PPP members, two ANP members and three MPAs of Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Q) supported the resolution.The resolution said that President Musharraf weakened the country politically and economically... Musharraf is responsible for the power crisis in the country.The resolution said Musharraf violated the constitution two times. It should mentioned 168-strong Sindh Assembly has 93 MPAs of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), 51 of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), eight of Pakistan Muslim League (PML-F), seven of Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Q) and three MPAs belong to National People’s Party.Later on, the session was adjourned till August 15.Earlier, the SA session began with Speaker Nisar Khuro in the chair. An impeachment resolution against President Pervez Musharraf was tabled in the assembly. Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) boycotted the session.MQM members did not come to attend the session. Commenting on this, Sindh Information Minister Shazia Mari said that MQM played a positive role by staying away from the house, not opposing the impeachment bid.Earlier, a joint meeting of parliamentary party of MQM in Sindh Assembly and Rabta Committee decided that MQM will not support the impeachment resolution against President Musharraf.
