Indo-Pak foreign secretaries discuss all outstanding issues

Awaz Apni: SHARM EL SHEIKH: The foreign secretaries of Pakistan and India met here late Tuesday night on the sidelines of NAM summit in a bid to start the peace process and resolve other issues of mutual importance.Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir while briefing media after his one and a half hour long meeting with Indian counterpart Shiv Shankar Menon said Pakistan discussed it’s leadership and peoples’ desire to work towards constructive relationship with India. “We believe to get back to structural dialogue and arrived at what we need to resolve between the two governments,” he said. The Foreign Secretary said, “We talked about regional cooperation and I underscored the fact that despite differences we have allowed the regional cooperation to go along.” He said Pakistan was not shy of addressing the issued of terrorism and there was a great clarity and great determination on part of the government and the nation. He said Pakistan had been giving India periodic update of the investigation into the Mumbai incident. Whether the issue of Hafiz Saeed was raised by India, Bashir said that “all issues were discussed and we did mention the fact that Pakistan was a primary victim of terrorism. When asked about the solid outcome of the foreign secretaries’ meeting, the Foreign Secretary said “we are still in the process,” and added that “Let’s not pre-judge that.” On the meeting between Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the Foreign Secretary said the Prime Minister was looking forward with great optimism and with constructive mind for the meeting. “We expect the two prime ministers to have a good, frank conversation. Prime Minister Gilani will convey Pakistan’s sense of how we see the things,” he said. The Foreign Secretary said the issue of Jammu and Kashmir and all other mutual issues came under discussion.
