KARACHI: A local court issued on Wednesday a contempt of court notice against Sub-Inspector Shahid Qureshi in a kidnapping case of Dr. Aafia Siddiqi and her three children. The case was registered at a Gulshan-e-Iqbal police station on Dec 7, 2009 against kidnapping of Dr. Aafia Siddiqi. A probe team headed by the then SSP Niaz Khokar had traveled to the United States to record Dr. Aafia's statements. However, the US government had declined permission to record her statement. Later, Dr. Siddiqi's counsel Qadir Khan Mandokhel submitted an application in the court, seeking chalan of the case. On this the investigation officer submitted a report on March 2 after recording statements of Dr Siddiqi's children and her mother Dr. Ismat Siddiqi. According to the report, there was still no clue about the whereabouts of accused. However, the court rejected this report and ordered the investigation officer to carry out a fresh probe. During the hearing today, Dr. Siddiqi's lawyer moved another application, saying almost two months are gone but the investigation officer is yet to submit the chalan. He said the investigation officer had committed contempt of court. The judicial magistrate issued a contempt of court notice and summoned the officer on May 6.
