ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Azad Jammu and Kashmir Raja Farooq tendered resignation to AJK President on Monday and appointed himself as caretaker prime minister.
In a televised press conference just a day before the no-confidence vote, Raja Farooq Haider said: "I have decided to step down and have sent my resignation to the President."
The incumbent premier has sent an advice for assembly session on August 06.
The no-confidence motion was moved in the legislative assembly by a breakaway faction of ruling Muslim Conference led by former premier Sardar Atique Ahmed.
He held Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Mian Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo and Government of Pakistan responsible for political crisis in the AJK and said would support any other candidate for the premiership other than his rival Sardar Atique.
He also pointed out that the federal government shrunk AJK's share in NFC and violated the Mangla Upraising agreement.
Last week, the Friends Group, comprising dissident legislators belonging to the ruling All Jammu Kashmir Muslim Conference, filed a no-confidence motion against AJK Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider in the AJK Legislature seeking in-house change of leader of the house.
The Friends Group claimed to enjoy full support and backing of the required number of lawmakers, including those belonging to the opposition parties i.e. PPP, PML and MQM, in its no-confidence motion against the AJK premier.
The resolution of the no-confidence motion was submitted by Chaudhry Abdul Aziz, legislator belonging to the rival Friends Group in the ruling party, to Secretary AJK Legislative Assembly Syed Ashiq Hussain.
