Dozens of conversations with 911 dispatchers have been released describing the tense and scary situation inside the building while employees were in lockdown.

Lee had been arrested before when he protested the Discovery Channel’s programming.

Caller: “I can see people on the floor in the building.”

Dispatch: “There’s people on the floor in the building?”

Caller: “Yes, I can see it.”

The world watched for four hours while police negotiated with a gunman inside the Discovery building in Silver Spring. Inside, Discovery employees were calling 911 for help.

Dispatch: “Sir, where are you located?”

Caller: “There’s a hostage. Discovery building, Discovery. There’s someone in the building with guns.”

On Wednesday, James Lee, 43, came into the building armed with starter pistols and homemade pipe bombs; he took three hostages.

Authorities evacuated most of the 1900 people who work at the cable channel, including children in the daycare.

Police say Lee also pulled a handgun out and was waving a handgun.

Eventually, officers shot and killed Lee when they heard a popping noise and thought he had fired his gun.

Caller: “The cops are at the entrance to the building because he came out of the building and waved a revolver at the people and told them to move.”

The three hostages later told police that they were devising an escape plan from Lee.

Police found several other homemade bombs in a nearby home that they detonated after the standoff.
