Staff Report
KARACHI: Nation is marking 14th Youm-e-Takbeer across the country today (Monday) as it is complete 14 years ago when Pakistan was established as the nuclear power with the nuclear explosions carried out on 28 May 1998 during the era of Nawaz Sharif.
It is pertinent to note here that the foundation stone of the nation’s nuclear program was laid during the era of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, who expressed an unflinching resolve to acquire the nuclear power status for the nation. And, every succeeding government furthered the program.
The sources privy to inside corridors of power said the state obtained the nuclear capability far earlier; but, the fact was made public on May 1998 with tests in Balochistan area of Chaghi following aggressive designs unleashed by neighboring India.
It should be mentioned here that India took the initiative by testing nuclear blasts on May 11 and 13, 1998.
Pakistan had to face international curbs on the nuclear tests but, the friend Islamic countries stood by the country through the critical juncture.
The day will be observed with the rallies, processions and seminars to underscore the significance of the day. Also, tribute will be paid to the nuclear scientists who built up the indomitable deterrence for the nation among the comity of nations. SAMAA
