Quetta observes shutter-down strike against carnage

CNewsworld.com: Quetta observes shutter-down strike against carnage

Staff Report
QUETTA: The city is observing complete shutter-down strike today (Friday) against the blood spilled yesterday when a bus coming carrying at least 50 passengers was blown away in a powerful bomb blast outside the city.

The grieved metropolis is marking three-day mourning with roads presenting deserted scene today all across.

It should be mentioned here that saboteurs targeted the bus carrying passengers who were returning from Iran via Taftan after paying visits to holy sites there, killing 13 people and injuring 25 others.

The gory incident took place on the eastern bypass in Hazar Ganji—suburban area of Quetta, where 40 to 50 kilograms of explosives were planted by the roadside.

President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf and Balochistan Governor Nawab Zulfiqar Ali Magsi condemned the incident in strong words.

The blast was so powerful that it was heard far and wide. Receiving reports, the blaring ambulances and police contingents arrived before long. The blast tore the bus apart.

A police mobile van, which was accompanying the bus for security, was destroyed in the blast with a policeman fatality in the explosion.

People in large number arrived on the blood-filled site to take part in rescue and relief efforts. However, they complained that police personnel kept them from taking part in the relief activities.

A crane was called in to displace the ill-fated bus. Police registered the case.

The deceased of the tragedy will be laid to rest in different areas of the city today. SAMAA

In Depth: Could robots be the writers of the future?

CNETAnalysis: It might be concerned with aliens, outer space and dimensional jumping for now, but ‘sci-fi’ might have to be redefined if the latest advances in automated writing continue apace. Software that can construct sentences, analyse data and even put a ‘spin’ on a news story are threatening to make the newsdesk and the author’s writing room very different places. The end for journalists? Journalism isn’t complicated. The popularity of online news stories can be tracked – and therefore the importance of news easily ranked – while almost everything is written using the inverted pyramid structure . Since automated writing software can already do most of that, are we looking at the last generation of human journalists? Narrative Science’s Quill is the leading automated writing software title. It transforms structured data into readable, plain English stories that are identical to those written by humans, ...
