CNET Analysis: When the iPhone 5 arrives within the next couple of weeks we’ll see if Apple lives up to the recent rumors and leaked pictures pointing to the design, although some of these iPhone 5 rumors are pointing to new features and also crucial changes for the next piece of hardware. The new iPhone 5 dock connector is pretty much a done deal, even if it is not confirmed, but other rumors such as the possibility that the 6th generation iPhone would make Bluetooth obsolete seem a little far-fetched. If you are in doubt that this is true, then you only need to look at the industry and also some of Apple’s partnerships that include Bluetooth. Bluetooth will be on the iPhone 5 specs list – AirPlay might see major enhancements on the next iPhone, but there are too many reasons why it won’t replace Bluetooth anytime soon. Brian Tucker is a Senior Software Engineering Manger for Apple, and he’s an iOS Bluetooth expert that sits on the board of directors for Bluetooth SIG. AirPlay Direct would be welcomed in iOS 6 and can add many benefits to the iPhone 5, especially without the need for a wireless connection, which means you’d be able to stream music to other iOS devices supporting this feature and to devices that support AirPlay Direct. This doesn’t mean Blue! tooth wo uld need to go and considering this technology will take up very little real estate on the iPhone 5, in our opinion it’s one of the features that will be staying for many years to come.
