KARACHI: The government has made a decision to appoint 500 police personnel, set up police check posts and install barriers in the metropolis’ Old City Area for the protection of traders plagued by the extortionists, SAMAA reports Wednesday.
At least 500 personnel of Sindh Reserve Police will be deployed in Old City area, the worst affected area by incessant extortion activities.
According to ASP Kharadar Usman Bajwa, the government constituted a committee comprising representatives of traders, CPLC and police officers. The committee visited different markets of the city and specified the points where security will be enhanced.
According Nasir Mehmood, Vice President of Karachi Chamber of Commerce, the government made many pledges in past as well; however, no plan materialized. –SAMAA
