Droid DNA outed with surprise release date

CNET Analysis: Verizon has yet to officially announce the next Droid smartphone, but it’s safe to assume that the Droid DNA is very much a reality already. An official announcement will commence on November 13, but prior to the event we have already had an official website sighting, as well as a confirmed Droid DNA release date as well. The industry practice among all new smartphone releases is to keep it a secret as much as possible prior to an event, or so you would think anyway. It appears that Verizon can’t even manage that though, as the Droid DNA has already appeared on the official Droid Does website, confirming the Droid DNA as its official name, as well as hints on a future unboxing event on Monday 19th November. Furthermore, another bombshell on Verizon’s Google+ page confirms that the Droid DNA will officially go on sale on Tuesday November 20, with the unboxing event mentioned above, happening on a live Google Hangout event the day before. We’re not too sure if Verizon intended to reveal so much, so early, as it now takes away the gloss and anticipation factor from Tuesday’s unveil event in a way. Now that we know the Droid DNA is going to go on sale on Tuesday November 20, will you now cancel all plans to pick up a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and get the Droid DNA instead? As we told you in a previous article, the DNA is going to be packed with some very impressive specs , including the likes of a 1.5Ghz quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, 2GB of RAM, a 5-inch 1080p display, 4G LTE and Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean out of the box. It doesn’t seem too long ago when we were still talking about the Droid RAZR MAXX being the best Android smartphone around, but having seen these initial specs, it looks like the Droid DNA could safely go on to eclipse the RAZR and its multiple variants with ease. Are you ready to jump aboard the Droid bandwagon again, or do you have your eyes firmly set on! a different handset, like the Google Nexus 4 perhaps, which goes on sale this Tuesday? In Depth: Could robots be the writers of the future?

CNETAnalysis: It might be concerned with aliens, outer space and dimensional jumping for now, but ‘sci-fi’ might have to be redefined if the latest advances in automated writing continue apace. Software that can construct sentences, analyse data and even put a ‘spin’ on a news story are threatening to make the newsdesk and the author’s writing room very different places. The end for journalists? Journalism isn’t complicated. The popularity of online news stories can be tracked – and therefore the importance of news easily ranked – while almost everything is written using the inverted pyramid structure . Since automated writing software can already do most of that, are we looking at the last generation of human journalists? Narrative Science’s Quill is the leading automated writing software title. It transforms structured data into readable, plain English stories that are identical to those written by humans, ...
