LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) has endorsed proposals of the Council of Common Interest (CCI) and issued orders for construction of Kala Bagh Dam, SAMAA reported on Thursday.
The Chief Justice of Lahore High Court, Umar Atta Bandial, issued decree on petition filed for construction of Kala Bagh Dam.
The court stated in its verdict this day that the Council of Common Interest (CCI) had approved construction of Kala Bagh Dam in 1991 and all four provinces also signed an agreement over water distribution truce.
It is a responsibility of the federal government, under Artcle-154 of the Constitution, to act upon decision of the CCI, added the court in its decision.
The petition was filed through A.K. Dogar, stating that the CCI is a constitutional institute and it removes differences between the provinces.
Construction of the dam is being opposed for various political bases while few provinces have passed resolutions against it but yet this issue has not been brought before the CCI, the petitioner argued in the plea while stating that it is a responsibility of the federation to follow last decision of the CCI.
