CNET Analysis: When Apple launched their very first smartphone the industry thought they were never going to make a success of it, and Apple proved them wrong with the release of the iPhone. They faced the same criticism again when the iPad was first launched, again this tablet proved a great success for them. Apple then decided that they had enough with Google supplying their map app, and so decided to develop their own, with a little help from TomTom. However, the magic never worked this time, as Apple Maps suffered a number of issues, so much so that iOS users were calling for Google Maps to be made available via the App Store. However, since its launch there have been several improvements made, but Apple Maps is still a long way from perfect. The app still has issues recognizing some places, but it also lacks some key features as well, with Street View being one of them. The Cupertino company is not one to give up and so plans to bring Street View to Apple Maps, just like their rivals, well if a patent is anything to go by. More often that not these patent filings have to be taken with a grain of salt, but we have a feeling this could be one that actually makes it. Speaking of Street View, it’s about time Google updated my street, because it’s several years out of date now. Also how cool would it be to have a then and now feature, where you could actually see what your street looked like 40, 50, 60 or even 70 years ago?
